Michael Carlton Ford (born January 30, 1959) is an American former professional football player who was a quarterback for the San Antonio Gunslingers of the United States Football League (USFL). He attended Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas. [1] Ford played college football for the SMU Mustangs from 1977 to 1980. [2] As a sophomore in 1978, he led all NCAA major college players in both total offense yards (2,957), [3] total offense per game (268.8 yards/game), [4] and passing yards (3,007). [5] In 11 games during the 1978 season, he completed 224 of 389 passes for 3,007 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions for and SMU team that compiled a 4–6–1 record. [2] Listed as a pre-season Heisman Trophy candidate in 1979, [6] he never reached the same statistical levels, passing for 217 yards after sustaining a knee injury in 1979 season opener, [7] and tallying 951 passing yards in 1980. [2] He returned to SMU as a student 30 year later to obtain his degree. [8]
After his college career, he played in the USFL for the San Antonio Gunslingers. [9]

Ty Hubert Detmer is an American former professional football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL). He won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 while playing college football for the BYU Cougars. Detmer broke numerous NCAA records with BYU, and was twice recognized as a consensus All-American. A late-round pick in the 1992 NFL draft, Detmer played for six NFL teams over 14 seasons, mostly in a backup role. He is currently the head Athletic Director American Leadership–Gilbert North Eagles.
Andre Trevor Ware is an American sports analyst and commentator, and a former football quarterback. He played in the National Football League (NFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the NFL Europe. Ware played college football for the Houston Cougars, winning the Heisman Trophy and Davey O'Brien Award in 1989. He was the first black quarterback to receive the Heisman. In the 1990 NFL draft, Ware was selected in the first round by the Detroit Lions with the seventh overall pick. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

John Jenkins is an American football coach and former player. He served as the head football coach the University of Houston from 1990 to 1992, compiling a record of 18–15. A proponent of the run and shoot offense, Jenkins also coached professional football in the United States Football League (USFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL). He served as the head coach of the CFL's Ottawa Renegades in 2006, the FXFL's Blacktips in 2014 and the Hudson Valley Fort for part of 2015. During his career as a coach, Jenkins has mentored a number of notable quarterbacks such as Andre Ware, David Klingler, Jim Kelly, Eric Crouch, Kliff Kingsbury, Anthony Calvillo and Doug Flutie.

Robert James "Hunchy" Hoernschemeyer was an American football player. A native of Cincinnati, he played college football as a halfback for the Indiana Hoosiers football in 1943 and 1944 and as a quarterback for the Navy Midshipmen football team in 1945. He led the NCAA in both total offense and passing yards during the 1943 season.

The 1961 Texas Longhorns football team was an American football team that represented the University of Texas as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1961 college football season. In their fifth year under head coach Darrell Royal, the Longhorns compiled a 10–1 record and tied with Arkansas for the SWC championship. The Longhorns defeated Arkansas (33–7) and Oklahoma (28–7), and were ranked No. 1 until they lost, 6–0, to unranked TCU on November 18. At the end of the regular season, the Longhorns were ranked No. 3 in the final AP poll and No. 4 in the final UPI poll. They concluded their season with a victory over No. 5 Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
The 1947 SMU Mustangs football team was an American football team that represented Southern Methodist University (SMU) as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1947 college football season. In its tenth season under head coach Matty Bell, the team compiled a 9–0–2 record, won the SWC championship, outscored opponents by a total of 182 to 90, and was ranked No. 3 in the final AP Poll. The team played its home games at Ownby Stadium on the SMU campus and at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Casey Fitzgerald is a former American football player. He grew up in Red Oak, Texas, and played college football, initially as a walk-on, for North Texas Mean Green football team from 2005 to 2008. In 12 games during the 2007 season, he caught 111 passes for 1,322 yards and 12 touchdowns. He ranked third in the NCAA and first in the Sun Belt Conference in receptions during the 2007 season. In a 2007 game against SMU, he totaled 327 receiving yards, the fifth highest in NCAA history to that date. In 12 games during the 2008 season, he caught 113 passes for 1,119 yards and six touchdowns. He led the NCAA major colleges that year in total offense and ranked second in passing yards. He led the NCAA in receptions and led the Sun Belt Conference in receiving yards in 2008.
Sal Olivas is a former American football player. A native of El Paso, Texas, Olivas attended Cathedral High School in that city. He played college football for the New Mexico State Aggies football team from 1964 to 1967. As a senior in 1967, he led all NCAA major college players in both total offense yards (2,190) and passing yards (2,225), and ranked second in the NCAA in pass attempts (321) and passing touchdowns (19). As of 2013, he was the Internet and inventory manager for a car dealership in El Paso.
