Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, RSP and Bar, USP is a Sri Lankan senior naval officer. He is the incumbent Commander of the Navy of the Sri Lanka Navy. [1]
Educated at Royal College, Colombo, Perera joined the Si Lanka Navy in the executive branch in 1987 as an Officer Cadet of the 5th intake of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. He was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in 1989 following his training at the General Sir John Kotalawala Defence University and Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. He completed the Sub Lieutenant Technical Course at Naval and Maritime Academy in 1992 and specialized in Clearance Diving from the Indian Naval Diving Training School in 1994. He holds a Masters in Science Degree (Defence Studies) in Management from General Sir John Kotalawala Defence University and a Master’s Degree of Maritime Policy with Distinctions from University of Wollongong. He is a graduate of the US Naval War College, having passed the US Naval Staff Course in 2004 and the Defence and Strategic Studies Course at People's Liberation Army National Defence University in 2018. [2] He become the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy on 18th December 2022, after being elevated him to the rank of three-star Admiral. [3]
His decorations include Rana Sura Padakkama thrice for gallantry; Uttama Seva Padakkama for meritorious service. Other medals he has gained over the years include, the Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal, the Sri Lanka Navy 50th Anniversary Medal, the Sewabhimani Padakkama, the Sewa Padakkama, the 50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal, the Eastern Humanitarian Operations Medal, the Northern Humanitarian Operations Medal, the North and East Operations Medal, the Purna Bhumi Padakkama, and the Riviresa Campaign Services Medal. His badges include: the Fast Attack Craft (FAC) Squadron Pin, the Surface Warfare Badge Commendation Badge, Commendation Badge and the Qualified in Command and Staff Course Badge.
He is married to Commander Mala Lamahewa and they have two sons.
The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) is the naval arm of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and is classed as the country's most vital defence force due to its island geography and is responsible for the maritime defense of the Sri Lankan nation and its interests. The role of the Sri Lanka Navy is to conduct operations at sea for the defence of the nation and its interests and conduct prompt and sustainable combat operations at sea in accordance with the national policies.
The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) is situated at Batalanda, Makola (South) 12 Kilometers away from Colombo and its aim to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of experienced officers of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy & the Sri Lanka Air Force to prepare them for the ranks of junior field officers in the army and the respective ranks of the Navy and Air force. The DSCSC was formerly known as the Sri Lanka Army Command and Staff College (ACSC).
Admiral Wannakuwatta Waduge Erwin Clancy Fernando VSV, USP, MSc, ndc, psc, MNI, SLN was the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy from 1 November 1991 to 16 November 1992. He was assassinated by the LTTE in 1992, as the most senior officer in the Sri Lankan military to be killed in the line of duty.

He had a distinguished 36-year career in the Sri Lankan Navy. His career included a wide range of key appointments at sea and ashore, including training in the United Kingdom, India and the United States.
Admiral Ravindra Chandrasiri Wijegunaratne, WV, RWP & Bar, RSP, VSV, USP, NI(M), ndc, psn, is a retired Sri Lankan naval officer, and former Chief of Defence Staff of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces. He has also served as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and held, at various times, four of the seven Naval Commands of the SLN. Wijegunaratne has also served as Director Naval Operations, and is a recipient of the Weerodara Vibhushanaya.
Vice admiral Susith Maliya Bandara Weerasekara RSP, VSV, USP, ndu, psn, MSc. (DS) Mgmt, DISS, DIDSS was a commissioned officer of the Sri Lanka Navy. He was the highest ranked senior officer of the Sri Lanka Navy at the time he was overlooked for the position of Commander of the Navy, leading to his subsequent retirement. A committee appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena found that he was politically victimised by the previous government and he was promoted to the rank of vice admiral in October 2015.
Major General Athula Jayawardane, RSP, USP, ndc, SLA was a Sri Lankan army officer, who was the former Commander Security Forces Headquarters – Mullaitivu (SFHQ-MLT); Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN); Director General Rehabilitation; Master-General of the Ordnance; Director Operations, General Staff; GOC, 21 Division; Brigade Commander, Artillery Brigade, 551 Infantry Brigade and 215 Infantry Brigade. He was also the military attaché to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Admiral Jayanath Colombage, RSP, VSV, USP, FNI is a Sri Lankan flag officer and diplomat. He was the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2022, prior to which he served as Additional Secretary to the President for foreign relations. A career naval officer, he had served as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy, the professional head of the navy from September 2012 to June 2014.
Rear Admiral Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Sarath Dissanayake RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, NDU, MMS, HDMC, ADIDSM, AIMA, JP is a retired Sri Lankan Navy officer. Rear Admiral Sarath Dissanayake joined Sri Lanka Navy in 1982 as an Officer Cadet of the 11th Cadet Intake. During his highly decorated naval career, Rear Admiral Dissanayake had served in many ships and establishments and imparted his hard-earned experience and knowledge for the progress of the Navy.
Rear Admiral Anthony Rohan Amarasinghe, RSP, VSV, USP, psc, MNI, SLN was a distinguished Sri Lankan admiral and a Commissioned Naval Officer. He served as the Director of Naval Rapid Action Boat Squadron, Director Naval Operations, Commander Southern Naval Area (ComSouth), Director General Personnel and Training, Commander North Central Naval Area (ComNorCen), Commander Western Naval Area (ComWest) and Commander Eastern Naval Area (ComEast). He retired from the active service in 2014 upon reaching a mandatory retirement age of 55 for Sri Lankan Armed Forces Personnel. At the time of his retirement, he was the third most senior executive officer behind Commander of the Navy and the Chief of Staff.

Rear Admiral (Retired) Vijitha Bandara Meddegoda, USP, BA, MBA,[Australia was a senior logistics Officer in the Sri Lanka Navy. He was the former Director General of Sri Lanka Navy. He was also the former Director Naval (Logistics), Director Naval, Director Naval (Budget), Director Naval. Further he hold many key appointments during his career. Rear Admiral Vijitha Meddegoda had retired from his service w.e.f 4 December 2020.
Lieutenant Commander Yoshitha Rajapaksa is a Sri Lankan sportsman and former naval officer. He is the son of the sixth president of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa and served as the Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
Rear Admiral Y. N. Jayarathna, RWP, RSP, USP is a retired Sri Lankan naval officer and hydrographer. He served as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and Joint chief Hydrographer to the Government of Sri Lanka, former Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy and Commanding Officer, 4th Fast Attack Flotilla.
Admiral Travis Jeremy Liyanduru Sinniah, WWV, RWP, RSP, USP, ndu, psc was a Sri Lankan admiral and the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. He has served as the Commander of Sri Lanka's Eastern Naval Area and as Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet. He was the second Tamil to be appointed the commander of the Sri Lankan Navy after Rajan Kadiragamar in the 1960s.

He also served as the Commandant of Volunteer Naval Force at the Volunteer Naval Force Headquarters.
