Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe, WWV, RWP, USP is a retired Sri Lankan admiral and the former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Ranasinghe received his education from St. Joseph's College, Anuradhapura and the Anuradhapura Central College. He holds an MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras and a Msc in War Studies and Defence Management from the National Defence University, Pakistan.
He enlisted in the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet in its 11th Intake on 15 November 1982, undergoing basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee, where he was adjudged the best cadet and selected for an international midshipmen course at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, which he attended between 1984 and 1985. He is an anti submarine warfare specialist (having trained at INS Venduruthy), and did his Naval Staff Course in 1999 at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, India. Ranasinghe has held the command of various ships and craft during his career in the navy, including SLNS Samudura (Commissioning Commanding Officer of US Coast Guard Cutter received from the United States of America), and the Fast Attack Squadron between 2002 and 2004. He attended the Allied Officers’ War Course at the National Defence University in Islamabad in 2007, and a National Defence Course in 2012 at the National Defence College, New Delhi.
President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Ranasinghe the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from 11 July 2015. Prior to this appointment, he served as the 4th Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (appointed in August 2016). [1] Other commands he has held include the Western Naval Command (2013-2014), Southern Naval Command (2012) and Deputy to the Southern Naval Command (2008). Staff commands he has held include those as Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy, Director Naval Operations, Director Naval Weapons, Director Marine Special Forces and Director Naval Projects and Plans. Ranasinghe was appointed Commander of the Navy effective 26 October 2017, replacing Travis Sinniah. [3] He was promoted to the rank of admiral on 31 December 2018 and retired on 1 January 2019.
Sirimevan is a keen sportsman, and has received Britannia Royal Naval College Colours for Badminton, and a Triple Crown in Badminton in the Inter-command Navy Tournament 1997.

The role of the Sri Lanka Navy is to conduct operations at sea for the defence of the nation and its interests and conduct prompt and sustainable combat operations at sea in accordance with the national policies.
Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Kumar Jayadeva Karannagoda, RSP, VSV, USP, MRIN, MNI is a Sri Lankan naval officer. He served as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy during the last phase of the Sri Lankan Civil War and Governor of North Western Province, Sri Lanka from 2021 to 2023.
Vice Admiral A. H. Asoka de Silva, VSV was the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy from 1983 to 1986. He was the first Sri Lankan Ambassador to Cuba.
Admiral Thisara Sugeeshwara Gunasekara Samarasinghe RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psc, DISS, MNI, SLN was the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy from 15 July 2008 to 15 January 2011. He had a distinguished 36-year career in the Sri Lankan Navy. His career included a wide range of key appointments at sea and ashore, including training in the United Kingdom, India and the United States.
Admiral Ravindra Chandrasiri Wijegunaratne, WV, RWP & Bar, RSP, VSV, USP, NI(M), ndc, psn, is a retired Sri Lankan admiral, and former Chief of Defence Staff of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces. He has also served as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and held, at various times, four of the seven Naval Commands of the SLN. Wijegunaratne has also served as Director Naval Operations, and is a recipient of the Weerodara Vibhushanaya.
Vice admiral Susith Maliya Bandara Weerasekara RSP, VSV, USP, ndu, psn, MSc. (DS) Mgmt, DISS, DIDSS was a commissioned officer of the Sri Lanka Navy. He was the highest ranked senior officer of the Sri Lanka Navy at the time he was overlooked for the position of Commander of the Navy, leading to his subsequent retirement. A committee appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena found that he was politically victimised by the previous government and he was promoted to the rank of vice admiral in October 2015.
Rear Admiral Manil Mendis was a Sri Lankan admiral. He is the former director of naval training and former commander of the Southern Naval Area. He was promoted to the rank of rear admiral in 2015, after a committee appointed by Maithripala Sirisena, the president of Sri Lanka found that he was politically victimized in 2010.
Admiral Jayanath Colombage, RSP, VSV, USP, FNI is a Sri Lankan flag officer and diplomat. He was the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2022, prior to which he served as Additional Secretary to the President for foreign relations. A career naval officer, he had served as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy, the professional head of the navy from September 2012 to June 2014.
Admiral M Farid Habib, (ND), NBP, OSP, BCGM, ndc, psc, was the 14th Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Navy. He is the first ever four-star Admiral in the history of Bangladesh Navy.

Admiral Dissanayake Wijesinghe Arachchilage Somatilake Dissanayake WV, RSP & Bar, VSV, USP is a retired Sri Lankan admiral. He served as Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy from January 2011 to September 2012.

He has served as the Commander of Sri Lanka's Eastern Naval Area and as Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet. He was the second Tamil to be appointed the commander of the Sri Lankan Navy after Rajan Kadiragamar in the 1960s.
