Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda is a senior Sri Lanka Navy officer and incumbent Commander of the Navy of the Sri Lanka Navy. [1] Prior to that, he served as Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy. [2]

Banagoda joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 15 September 1989 as an officer cadet of the 19th intake in the executive branch. After completion of basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee he was sent to Britain's Royal Naval College,Dartmouth,and was commissioned in 1991.
He completed the 'Sub Lieutenant Technical Course' at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee in 1994. He also completed the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) course at INS Venduruthy,Kochi,India in 2000.
