Protoclythia californica is a species of flat-footed flies in the family Platypezidae.
The Lonchopteridae are a family of small (2–5 mm), slender, yellow to brownish-black Diptera, occurring all over the world. Their common name refers to their pointed wings, which have a distinct venation. Many are parthenogenic; males are very rare, however, at least in North American species, and have a somewhat different venation than do the females.
The Platypezoidea are a superfamily of true flies of the section Aschiza. Their closest living relatives are the Syrphoidea, which, for example, contain the hoverflies. Like these, the adults do not burst open their pupal cases with a ptilinum when hatching, thus the Aschiza do not have the inverted-U-shaped suture above the antennae. They are, however, muscomorphs, thus have a particular type of pupal case resembling a rounded barrel and called puparium.
The Coelopidae or kelp flies are a family of Acalyptratae flies, they are sometimes also called seaweed flies, though both terms are used for a number of seashore Diptera. Fewer than 40 species occur worldwide. The family is found in temperate areas, with species occurring in the southern Afrotropical, Holarctic, and Australasian regions.
Platypezidae is a family of true flies of the superfamily Platypezoidea. The more than 250 species are found worldwide primarily in woodland habitats. A common name is flat-footed flies, but this is also used for the closely related Opetiidae which were included in the Platypezidae in former times.
The Tanypezidae, known as the “stretched-foot flies”, are small family of acalyptrate Diptera. The 28 species are found mostly in the New World, divided between two genera: Tanypeza is found in North America, with the type species extending into the Palaearctic, and Neotanypeza is neotropical in distribution and includes one species known only from Dominican amber from 17–20 million years ago, N. dominicana Lonsdale & Apigian. This distribution contrasts that of its sister family, the Strongylophthalmyiidae, which is mostly East Asian in distribution.
The Opetiidae or flat-footed flies are members of a family of flies. The family contains only five extant species in two genera, Opetia, and Puyehuemyia. the remaining taxa are known only from fossils.
The lesser bamboo bat or lesser flat-headed bat is one of the smallest species of vesper bat, and is native to Southeast Asia.
Callomyia is a genus of flies in the family Platypezidae. Some species can be found in Belgium.
Polyporivora is a genus of flat-footed flies. There are about eight described species in Polyporivora.
Callomyia corvina is a species of flat-footed flies.
Seri is a genus of flat-footed flies in the family Platypezidae.
Metaclythia is a genus of flat-footed flies. There is one described species, Metaclythia currani.
Chydaeopeza is a genus of flat-footed flies. There is one described species, Chydaeopeza tibialis.
Grossoseta johnsoni is a species of flat-footed flies.
Protoclythia is a genus of flat-footed flies in the family Platypezidae.
Protoclythia modesta is a species of flat-footed flies in the family Platypezidae.
Pamelamyia is a genus of flat-footed flies. There is one described species, Pamelamyia stuckenbergorum.
Paraplatypeza is a genus of flat-footed flies in the family Platypezidae.
Seri dymka is a species of fly in the genus Seri.
