Prova Chakma (born 12 June 1975) is an Indian politician in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. She is currently serving as an MLA from West Tuipui constituency of Lunglei district. [1] [2] [3]
She is elected as the MLA in the 2023 Mizoram Legislative Assembly Elections representing Mizo National Front party defeating sitting MLA [4] Nihar Kanti Chakma of Congress by 711 votes. [5] [6] [7] Only three women,including Chakma,were elected as MLAs in 2023. [8] [9] [10]
She did her post-graduation from Vinayaka Missions University,Tamil Nadu. She is a teacher. She is married to Shyamal Kanti Chakma. [11]
The Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) is an autonomous council for the Chakma people living in the south-western part of Mizoram,India. It covers the Tuichawng (Chawngte) subdivision of Lawngtlai district. Its headquarters is at Kamalanagar. The Chakma people has been demanding to change the status of the Chakma Autonomous District Council into a Union territory under the name Chakmaland.
Lalduhoma is an Indian politician who serves as the 6th Chief Minister of Mizoram since 8 December 2023. Formerly an Indian Police Service officer,he resigned from the security service to the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,and was elected as Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Mizoram and President of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee in 1984. He however left the party from which he was elected two years later,for which he was disqualified from the Parliament. He became the first MP in India to be discharged based upon its anti-defection law.
The Zoram People's Movement is an alliance of six regional parties formed under the leadership of MLA and former IPS Officer Lalduhoma. The party advocates for secularism and the protection of religious minorities in India. In the 2023 Mizoram Assembly polls,the party won 27 seats out of 40 seats and Lalduhoma became the Chief Minister of Mizoram.

Nihar Kanti Chakma is an Indian politician representing West Tuipui in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly since 1998. He is a member of the Indian National Congress. Nihar Kanti Chakma was born to Late Hari Kristo Chakma,a resident of Nunsury village,and a former MLA of the same constituency. Earlier,he held the post of Minister of Veterinary &Rehabilitation department in Mizoram. He made his political debut as a member of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly in 1998 after his father's death. Since then,he is the sole undefeated MLA from Mizoram.
