Géry van Outryve d'Ydewalle is a Belgian scientist. He was professor in psychology with memory and cognition as main topics. He was head of the Laboratory of experimental psychology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Leuven) until 2012. He worked for some time with Professor William Kaye Estes at Rockefeller University (N.Y.) and lectured at the London School of Economics. In 1992, he was awarded the Francqui Prize on Human Sciences and was elected member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts. From 1980 till 2004 he was successively member, Deputy Secretary-General (1984), Secretary-General (1992) and President (1996) of the International Union of Psychological Science. He has been elected as permanent secretary of the Royal Flemish Academy in succession to professor Niceas Schamp, as of 1 September 2010. Géry van Outryve d'Ydewalle has been active as a musician (traverso) in several chamber orchestras. He is the fifth of six children of Baron Pierre van Outryve d'Ydewalle, governor of West-Flanders from 1944 to 1979.

Age of acquisition, is a psycholinguistic variable referring to the age at which a word is typically learned. For example, the word 'penguin' is typically learned at a younger age than the word 'albatross'. Studies in psycholinguistics suggest that age of acquisition has an effect on the speed of reading words. The findings have demonstrated that early-acquired words are processed more quickly than later-acquired words. It is a particularly strong variable in predicting the speed of picture naming. It has been generally found that words that are more frequent, shorter, more familiar and refer to concrete concepts are learned earlier than the counterparts in simple words and compound words, together with their respective lexemes. In addition, the AoA effect has been demonstrated in several languages and in bilingual speakers.

Acta Psychologica Sinica is a monthly peer-reviewed Chinese-language scientific journal of psychology. It was established in 1956 and is published by Science Press. According to the Chinese Society of Periodicals, it is the oldest and most influential Chinese-language psychology journal. Preregistration is the practice of registering the hypotheses, methods, and/or analyses of a scientific study before it is conducted. Clinical trial registration is similar, although it may not require the registration of a study's analysis protocol. Finally, registered reports include the peer review and in principle acceptance of a study protocol prior to data collection.
