Pandit Raghunath Murmu Academy of Santali Cinema & Art ('RASCA', Santali :meaning Joy), is a cine academy based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. It is formed to promote and develop Santali films across the state.

Activities

This academy classes are provided to the students in acting & dancing primarily along with technical education of film equipments along with guest lectures.

Surya Singh Besra, the director of RASCA announced the launch of santali film awards, at a meeting held on February 3, 2008. [1] RASCA's major achievement is that it arranges an award programme for Santali Films each year on 5 May, in which persons related to Santali Films are awarded with certificates, trophies and cash.

The first award ceremony was held on 5 May 2008, [2] [3] at XLRI Auditorium, Jamshedpur.

Award programme was not organised in the year 2009 due to parliamentary elections, & in 2010 due to inadequate number films for nominations, which broke the continuity of organising the award programme each year. [4]

RASCA Award Ceremony 2008

This was the maiden award ceremony organised by RASCA, & was held on 5 May 2008, at XLRI Auditorium, Jamshedpur. [3]

RASCA Award Ceremony 2011

2nd RASCA Award was organised in 2011 after a gap of 2 yrs, [4] [5] [6] which became the starting point of continuity, for organising the award programme each year. The award programme was held at Michael John Auditorium, Bistupur. [2] [7]

The third RASCA Award Ceremony was held on Saturday 05/05/2012, at Birsa Munda Town Hall, Sidhgora. [8]

The Ol Chiki script, also known as Ol Chemetʼ, Ol Ciki, Ol, and sometimes as the Santhali alphabet invented by Pandit Raghunath Murmu in 1925, is the official writing system for Santhali, an Austroasiatic language recognized as an official regional language in India. It is one of the official scripts of the Indian Republic. It has 30 letters, the design of which is intended to evoke natural shapes. The script is written from left to right, and has two styles. Unicode does not maintain a distinction between these two, as is typical for print and cursive variants of a script. In both styles, the script is unicameral.

The shapes of the letters are not arbitrary, but reflect the names for the letters, which are words, usually the names of objects or actions representing conventionalized form in the pictorial shape of the characters.

Raghunath Murmu was an Indian Santali writer and educator. He developed the Ol Chiki script for Santali language. Until the nineteenth century, Santali people had no written language and knowledge was transmitted orally from one generation to other. Later European researchers and Christian missionaries started to use Bengali, Odia, and Roman scripts to document the Santali language. However, Santalis did not have their own script. His development of the Ol Chiki script enriched the cultural identity of the Santali society. He wrote many songs, plays and school text books in the Ol Chiki script.

Joba Murmu is an Indian writer and litterateur who is known for her works in Santali literature. She received the Sahitya Akademi's Children's Literature Award on November 14, 2017 due to her language contribution to Santali literature.

Naresh Chandra Murmu is the current director of CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute Durgapur and CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory Jamshedpur.
