Punya Nagari is a Marathi language daily newspaper published in Maharashtra. It was established in 1999 by Muralidhar Shingote. [3] [4] [5] According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, its average circulation is 416,625. [6] Punya Nagari newspaper is published from Mumbai, Nashik, Nanded, Pune, Ahmednagar, Thane, Nagpur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Latur, Akola, Amravati, Aurangabad, Satara and Solapur. [7]

History

Baba Shingote (Murlidhar Shingote), the founder of Punya Nagari, reached Mumbai for work and business after dropping out school. Initially he selling fruit, then worked with Buwasheth Dangat and sell newspaper. [8]

In 1994, Shingote started an evening daily newspaper named Mumbai Chaufer. Followed by Aapala Vartahar, Yasobhoomi, Karnataka Malla, Tamil Times, Hindmata and in 1999 he started Punya Nagari. [9]

Sulabha Deshpande was an Indian actress and theatre director. Apart from Marathi theatre and Hindi theatre in Mumbai, she acted in over 73 mainstream Bollywood films. She also performed in art house cinema such as Bhumika (1977), Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan (1978), and Gaman (1978) as a character actor, along with numerous TV series and plays. A leading figure in the experimental theatre movement of the 1960s, she was associated with Rangayan, and personalities like Vijay Tendulkar, Vijaya Mehta, and Satyadev Dubey. In 1971, she co-founded the theatre group Awishkar with her husband Arvind Deshpande, and also started its children's wing, Chandrashala, which continues to perform professional children's theatre. In later years, she acted in serials such as Jee Ley Zara, Ek Packet Umeed, Asmita and in films such as English Vinglish (2012).

Shubhangi Joshi was an Indian theatre and television actress.

Suwalal Chhaganmal Bafna was an Indian politician, industrialist and social worker. He was President of Dhule District's Indian National Congress committee for 10 years. He was presented with Padma Shri, India's 4th highest civilian award for his social work in 2006. He had retired from active politics for about 15 years before his death from natural causes in 2018.

Muzaffer Hussain was an Indian writer, journalist and columnist. He was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and later moved to Mumbai in his youth for earning livelihood. He wrote columns in various newspapers and magazines in Hindi and Urdu. For over 12 years he published under the column Padsaad in the Marathi newspaper Saamana along with few articles in Hindi version as well.
