Purbanchal University (PU) is a public university located in Koshi Province, Nepal. [1] It was established in 1993 as the second university in Nepal after the restoration of multi-party democracy by the Government of Nepal. With more than 26,128 students, Purbanchal University stands as the second largest university in Nepal. [2]
Purbanchal University conducts its academic programs in 74 subjects through its five constituent campuses and 123 affiliated colleges. The university's main campus in Biratnagar covers 545 hectares.
Purbanchal University was established in 1995 AD by the then prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala after the restoration of multi-party democracy to develop Eastern Development region as educational hub focusing the region. [3]
At present, the university has broadly identified Business Administration, Industry-Technology, Agriculture-Forestry, Environment Rural-Cultural Subsistence and Sustainable Development as specific areas of “Academic Excellence”. [4]
School of Management is the First Constituent College of Purbanchal University. It introduced the first Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program in Nepal. It is located in Tinpaini, Biratnagar. [5]
The School offers courses of BBA, BHM, MBA. It also offers course of M Phill and PHd under its premises. [6]
Purbanchal University School of Engineering (PUSET), formerly known as Science and Technology Campus was established in 2056 BS in Biratnagar. It was established as a constituent campus of Purbanchal University and is the only one of its kind in the Eastern Region, with information technology based curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students. It runs bachelor and masters course in various disciplines of engineering. [7]
Purbanchal University College of Environment and Forestry is one of the schools under Purbanchal University established in 2074 BS. It is located in Gothgaun, Morang. It's currently running bachelor level course in forestry. [8]
Purbanchal University College of Medical and Allied Sciences is a constituent college of Purbanchal University located in Gothgaun, Morang. It offers bachelor and masters level courses in Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health. [9] It is planning to run MBBS courses in partnership with Mechi hospital for which preparations are ongoing. It is expected to start in the near future. [3]
Purbanchal University School of Science and Technology is also a constituent campus of Purbanchal University. Located in Kanyamarg, Biratnagar. It offers Bachelor courses in Computer Application, Information Technology and B.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence. In addition Masters of Computer Application and Master of Information Technology is also run under PUSAT. [10]
GP Koirala College of Agriculture and research center is one of the constituent campus of Purbanchal University conducting BSc Ag and Bachelor in Agriculture Engineering courses producing and developing manpower in sector of Agriculture and Animal Science. [11] [12]
Janata Adarsha Multiple Campus is also one of the constituent campuses offering courses of Bachelor in Social Work (BSW), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.). [13] It also offers course of MSc in Population and Rural Development and Masters in Education. It conducts various non technical courses. [14]
Geomatic Institute of Technology (GIT), previously known as Himalayan College of Geomatic Engineering and Land Management is one of the oldest engineering college of PU offering Bachelors course of Geomatic Engineering. Geomatics Engineering is a discipline that focuses on spatial information. It is a field that integrates the acquisition, management, analysis, and visualization of spatial data. Geomatics engineers use a variety of tools and technologies to collect, process, and analyze spatial data. They work in a wide range of industries, including surveying, mapping, urban planning, environmental management, and more. [15] Drawing from the experiences of Scandinavian countries, it is estimated that a country like Nepal, with its specific size and population, requires approximately 3,000 graduates in Geomatic Engineering to effectively handle the surveying and mapping needs essential for national development. Biratnagar is a metropolitan city in Nepal, which serves as the capital of Koshi Province. With a Metropolitan Urban Agglomeration population of 244,750 as per the 2021 census, it is the largest city and fastest growing city in the province and also the headquarters of Morang district. As per the preliminary report of 2022 Nepal census, Biratnagar Metropolitan has an estimated city population of 243,927 excluding the suburban areas which are now very well connected to the old town. It is the administrative center of the Greater Birat Development Area which incorporates the cities of Biratnagar and its suburbs and towns of-Itahari-Gothgau-Biratchowk-Dharan primarily located on the Koshi Highway in Eastern Nepal, with an estimated total urban agglomerated population of 804,300 people in 159,332 households including the town of Ithari. Biratnagar is located 399 km (248 mi) east of the capital, Kathmandu, and 6 km (3.7 mi) north of the bordering town of Jogbani in the Indian state of Bihar which is very well connected through Rani Path and Koshi Path. It is one of the major entry point in Nepal for Businessmen as well as Tourists who come to visit Nepal for various purposes. A customs duty is required to be paid for Indian vehicles in Nepal and Vice-versa.
Tribhuvan University is a public university located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal. Established in 1959, TU is the oldest and the largest university in Nepal. It offers 1,000 undergraduate and 500 postgraduate programs across a wide range of disciplines. Additionally, the institution has 62 constituent campuses and over 1,080 affiliated colleges across the country.

Kathmandu University (KU) is a public autonomous university in Nepal. Pokhara University was established in 1997 and is Nepal's fifth university. Its central office is located in Pokhara, Kaski District, Gandaki Province. Along with Purbanchal University, PU was formed as part of a government initiative to improve access to higher education. The Prime Minister of Nepal is the university chancellor and the Minister of Education is the pro-chancellor. The vice chancellor is the principal administrator of the university.
Morang District is located in Koshi Province in eastern Nepal. It is an Outer Terai district, which borders Jhapa to the east, Dhankuta and Panchthar to the north, Sunsari to the west, and Bihar, India, to the south. Morang has one metropolitan city (Biratnagar), eight municipalities and eight rural municipalities. The total area of the district is 1,855 km2 (716 sq mi). The lowest elevation point is 60 meters and the highest is 2,410 meters above sea level. The headquarters of Morang is connected by the Koshi National Highway to the east–west Mahendra National Highway at Itahari, Sunsari. Morang is also connected to the Hill parts of the eastern region of Nepal. Morang is the core industrial sector for the eastern region of Nepal.

Pashchimanchal Campus (Nepali: पश्चिमाञ्चल क्याम्पस) previously known as Western Regional Campus (WRC) is the third and one of the five constituent engineering campuses under Institute of Engineering of Tribhuvan University. Paschimanchal campus is specialized for geomatics engineering in the context of Nepal and is the only TU campus to have this program at the bachelor's and master's level.

College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE), affiliated to Purbanchal University, popularly known as CIT, was established in 2000, the first college in Nepal offering Information Technology (IT) Education. CITE is centrally located at Subidhanagar, Tinkune, Kathmandu. Currently CITE offers bachelor level education on Information Technology, Engineering and Management.
Caliber International College is an institution of higher education at Rajbiraj, Nepal. The college is established in 2006. The founder of the college is Arun Yadav. The college belongs to the first group of colleges in Rajbiraj to receive academic accreditation from the Purbanchal University. The college offer 10+2 and Bachelor level courses. This is the first college in Rajbiraj which offer Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) stream under Purbanchal University.
Sundar Haraicha is a municipality in Morang District of Koshi Province in Nepal. It is centered around Biratchowk town which is the gateway to Biratnagar. It borders Itahari Sub- Metropolitan city to the west, Dharan Sub- Metropolitan city to the Northwest and Belbari municipality to the east and is connected by Mahendra Highway. It is one of the fastest growing cities in eastern Nepal and the second largest city of Morang district after Biratnagar, with 121,305 inhabitants living in 26,677 households. It consists of the town centres of Biratchowk and Gothgaun which are parts of the Greater Birat Development Area which incorporates the cities of Biratnagar-Itahari-Gothgau-Biratchowk-Dharan primarily located on the Koshi Highway in Eastern Nepal, with an estimated total urban agglomerated population of 804,300 people living in 159,332 households.
Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus is a constituent campus of Tribhuvan University in Biratnagar, Morang. Established in 1955 as 'Morang Intermediate College', it is one of the oldest constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University in the district. There are 165 academic staffs and 3234 students studying in the college. On 15 April 2018, Tribhuvan University elected the college administration led by Dr. Babu Ram Timalsina, who is often referred to as "Campus Chief".
Snatakottar Campus also known as Post Graduate Campus is one of the constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University located in Biratnagar city of Nepal. The campus was established in 1981.
Rajarshi Janak University is a public university of Nepal. A national university of Nepal, it is located in Janakpur of Dhanusha District, the capital of Madhesh Province. RJU operates through its two constituent campus, the central campuses in Janakpur and the other being newly established engineering campus in Gaushala. Located in Biratnagar, the capital of Koshi Province it established in 1999 AD with aim to provide engineering skills and knowledge related to the sector. PUSOE provides bachelor and masters level course in various streams of engineering.
Geomatic Institute of Technology is a private engineering college in Nepal, established in 2004 with the aim of teaching engineering skills and knowledge related to surveying and land management. It is the first and only dedicated college in Nepal for geomatics engineering studies. GIT is an alternative to Paschimanchal Campus of Tribhuvan University.
