Rain in July is the first EP by Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep.
Vocalist Ben Barlow met lead guitarist Lloyd Roberts when Barlow's older brother, Seb, was recording the Wrexham hardcore band Spires that Roberts played in. [1] At the time, Ben Barlow wrote pop punk songs on his own for fun. [1] On 19 April 2012 [2] the duo posted the song "What Did You Expect?" online under the name Neck Deep. [1] According to Roberts, Barlow "literally said, 'What about Neck Deep [as the band name]?' and that was that." [1] The name comes from the Crucial Dudes' song "Boom, Roasted". [3] "What Did You Expect?" soon gained attention online. [1]
This resulted in the duo adding guitarist Matt West, who also played in Spires, and drummer Dani Washington, who was aware of Wrexham's local music scene. [1] Bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans joined shortly after leaving Lincoln post-hardcore band Climates. [1] "I Couldn't Wait to Leave 6 Months Ago " was posted online on 8 June. [4] On 11 June, it was announced the band had signed to US label We Are Triumphant. [5] In July, [6] the band recorded more songs with Seb Barlow in the attic of Ben's home, [1] dubbed Celestial Recordings. [6] The recordings were then mixed by Michael Fossenkemper at Turtletone Studios. [6] The EP contains "six songs about girls and one song about posers", according to Rock Sound 's Ollie Pelling. [7] Barlow wrote "A Part of Me" when he was 16 "about a girl who I was crazy about." [8]
Rain in July was made available for streaming via AbsolutePunk on 17 September 2012 and was released a day later [9] through We Are Triumphant. Barlow dubbed the character on the artwork Ned the Head. [10] The band's sound has elements of The Story So Far and City Lights. [9] On 28 October, a music video was released for "I Couldn’t Wait to Leave 6 Months Ago". [11] In November, the EP was released on vinyl via Hang Tight. [12] According to Barlow, "People took notice [of the band] and demanded that we play shows." [1] The band supported With the Punches and Me Vs Hero in the UK in December. [12] The 3 December date of tour was the band's live debut. [13] On 20 January 2013 a music video was released for "Over and Over". [14]
The EP was remixed and remastered as part of the compilation Rain in July / A History of Bad Decisions, released on Hopeless on 17 June 2014. [15] It was released to capitalize on the band's popularity at the time. [16] Barlow said that this compilation would be "definitive release of [these] songs". [17] The band hoped that the new fans that enjoyed Wishful Thinking "will enjoy the chance to check these songs out now that we've had a chance to improve how they sound!" [17]
Rock Sound reviewer Ollie Pelling wrote that despite "looking distinctly average on paper, Neck Deep are more than distinctly average." [7] He mentioned that listeners "won't find many bands writing better pop-punk hooks". [7] He ended with calling the EP "derivative, but there's enough passion, energy and talent here to make it count." [7]

Lower Than Atlantis were an English rock band from Watford, Hertfordshire. They formed in 2007 as a hardcore punk band and gradually shifted into a melodic rock sound over five studio albums, their last being 2017's Safe in Sound. The band consisted of vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Mike Duce, bassist Declan Hart, drummer Eddy Thrower, and guitarist Ben Sansom. They announced in December 2018 that they would be disbanding after a final 3 tour dates in 2019.
Crossfaith is a Japanese metalcore band from Osaka that was formed in 2006. Since its formation, the band has retained the same line-up with no member changes, which currently consists of vocalist Kenta Koie, guitarist Kazuki Takemura, bassist Hiroki Ikegawa, drummer Tatsuya Amano and keyboardist Terufumi Tamano. They are characterized by performing a style of metalcore with dubstep and other forms of electronic music influences, and for their intense live performances.

Wishful Thinking is the debut studio album by the Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. Vocalist Ben Barlow met guitarist Lloyd Roberts when Roberts was working with Barlow's brother, Seb. Following the upload of a song under the artist name Neck Deep, the song gained attention. This attention resulted in the duo obtaining guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. The band released two EPs, Rain in July (2012) and A History of Bad Decisions. In March 2013 the band started recording material at Celestial Recordings in Wrexham, where they began recording guitar, bass and vocals. The group then moved to Outhouse Studio in Reading, where they recorded drums. Material was produced by Seb Barlow and the band. In mid-August, the group had signed to Hopeless, and by late August, they announced the album had been finished.
State Champs is an American pop-punk band from Albany, New York, formed in 2010. They are currently signed to Pure Noise Records and have released three EPs and four full-length albums. Their 2013 debut album The Finer Things debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. They released an acoustic EP titled The Acoustic Things in October 2014 and their second studio album Around the World and Back one year later, in October 2015. In May 2017, they released a deluxe version of the album. Their third album, Living Proof, was released in 2018. In May 2022, the band released their fourth studio album, Kings of the New Age.
Knuckle Puck is an American rock band, formed in 2010 in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The group released several EPs, one of which, While I Stay Secluded (2014), peaked at number 5 on the Heatseekers Albums chart. The band released a split EP with the UK band Neck Deep. The group signed to Rise in 2014 and released its debut album, Copacetic, through the label in 2015.

White Noise is the debut studio album by American rock band Pvris. Pvris formed as a five-piece metalcore band in Lowell, Massachusetts in 2012. Following the band becoming a four-piece of vocalist/guitarist Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, guitarist Alex Babinski, bassist Brian MacDonald and drummer Brad Griffin, the group's sound changed. Bringing pop and electronic elements into their music, the band released a self-titled EP. After winning a contest, the band played a week on Warped Tour; following this, Griffin left the band. The group signed with Rise and Velocity Records in June 2014. White Noise was recorded with producer Blake Harnage. Harnage would help co-write several songs on the album with Gunnulfsen; Sierra Kusterbeck helped co-write a few songs with Harnage and Gunnulfsen.

Life's Not out to Get You is the second studio album by Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. Following the success of their debut album, Wishful Thinking (2014), the majority of the band members quit their day jobs and vocalist Ben Barlow dropped out of university. Working with Jeremy McKinnon, Andrew Wade and Tom Denney, the band recorded their second album between December 2014 and January 2015. Following recording the band immediately went on tour.

Safe in Sound is the fifth and final studio album by British rock band Lower Than Atlantis. Following the release of Changing Tune (2012), Island Records were streamlining and dropping artists who were underselling. Despite the album underselling, the group couldn't be dropped as the label had picked the option for their next album. The label offered the band the chance to take an advance and leave, which they subsequently did to build a personal studio. Here, the group worked on their next album, Lower Than Atlantis, which was released through Sony Music and supported by successful tours. In early 2015, the band were having discussions with Sony about their next album.
The Peace and the Panic is the third studio album by Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. It is the band’s first album to feature lead guitarist Sam Bowden, formerly of the bands Blood Youth and Climates and the last to feature founding bassist and backing vocalist Fil Thorpe-Evans before his departure in September 2018. The group planned to work on material for their follow-up album by the end of the year, though were unable due to tour commitments. In June 2016, the band went on a two-week writing retreat in Wales, creating 40 song drafts in the process. At the end of the year, vocalist Ben Barlow said the group had around 30 demos and two completed songs. Following a support slot for A Day to Remember in early 2017, the band began recording The Peace and the Panic in March and April in Los Angeles, California. Mike Green produced the album with assistance from engineers Will McCoy and Colin Schwanke. Most of the album was mixed by Neal Avron, while Green mixed three of the songs.
