The Rainy River District School Board, previously known as English-language Public District School Board No. 5B until 1999, [3] is a prominent school board in the province of Ontario, Canada. Serving as the primary school district administrator for English language public schools in the Rainy River District, Ontario, the board caters to approximately 2,557 students as of 2022. Its operational jurisdiction span across an administrative region covering 10,552 square kilometers. [4]

Fort Frances High School

Located in Fort Frances, Ontario, Fort Frances High School offers grades 7 through 12. It is the only high school in Fort Frances.

Fort Frances High School began offering grades 7 and 8 starting in the 2016-17 school year. Grade 7/8 students from the neighboring J.W. Walker Elementary will be transferred to Fort Frances High School and that school will only offer up to grade 6. [5]

Atikokan High School is located in the small town of Atikokan, Ontario. It offers grade 7 through 12 and is the only high school in Atikokan.

Starting in the 2016-2017 school year, JW Walker School stopped offering grades 7 and 8. Grade 7/8 students from J.W. Walker will be transferred to the neighbouring Fort Frances High School.

McCrosson-Tovell Elementary School is located in Bergland, Ontario, approximately 150 km West and North of Fort Frances, on Highway 621 towards Morson, Ontario. It offers Grades JK through 8.

As of 2013, the Rainy River District School Board has partnered with the Seven Generations Education Institute, the Ministry of Education, and local First Nations’ communities in development of new technologies and programs for revitalization of the Ojibwe language. [27]

Kenora—Rainy River was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 2004. It was located in the province of Ontario. This riding was created in 1924 from parts of Fort William and Rainy River and Port Arthur and Kenora ridings.

International Falls, Minnesota and the much smaller city of Ranier, Minnesota are situated opposite Fort Frances, Ontario, on either side of the Rainy River. King's Highway 71, commonly referred to as Highway 71, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The 194-kilometre-long (121 mi) route begins at the Fort Frances–International Falls International Bridge in Fort Frances, continuing from US Highway 53 (US 53) and US 71 in Minnesota, and travels west concurrently with Highway 11 for 40 kilometres (25 mi) to Chapple. At that point, Highway 11 continues west while Highway 71 branches north and travels 154 kilometres (96 mi) to a junction with Highway 17 just east of Kenora. Highway 71 forms a branch of the Trans-Canada Highway for its entire length, with the exception of the extremely short segment south of Highway 11 in Fort Frances.

The Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is a catch and release smallmouth bass fishing tournament held on Rainy Lake and hosted in Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada. The annual tournament was first held in 1995, and the tournament continues to takes place each July.

Eva Marion Lake was a local services board in the Canadian province of Ontario, consisting of much of the portion of the Rainy River District lying east of Atikokan, including the communities of Sapawe and Kawene.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ontario and Rainy River Railway</span>

The Ontario and Rainy River Railway was a railway that existed briefly in the late 19th century. The company had been incorporated in 1886 to build a railway from Port Arthur, Ontario, to the Rainy River. On 4 May 1899, the chief promoters of the Canadian Northern Railway Mackenzie and Mann announced they had acquired the railway charter. Construction of the line began at Stanley, Ontario, on 1 August 1898.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Seven Generations Education Institute</span>

Seven Generations Education Institute is an Aboriginal-owned and controlled post-secondary institution, co-founded by the ten bands in the Rainy Lake Tribal area in 1985. The ten bands are: Big Grassy, Big Island, Couchiching, Lac La Croix, Naicatchewenin, Nigigoonsiminikaaning, Ojibways of Onigaming, Rainy River, Seine River and Mitaanjigamiing. Each of the bands appointed one member to the board of directors of Seven Generations Education Institute, which functions with the leadership of the Executive Director.

Elections were held in the organized municipalities in the Rainy River District of Ontario on October 27, 2014 in conjunction with municipal elections across the province.

Fort Frances High School is the only high school serving Fort Frances, Ontario. The school is administered by the Rainy River District School Board and serves roughly 475 students.
