The Raj Kapoor Award is the highest lifetime achievement award in Hindi cinema, established by the Government of Maharashtra, India. It is presented annually by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra. Award instituted in 1998 to recognises individual for their "Lifetime Achievement to Hindi cinema". The recipient is recognized for their exceptional contribution to the Indian cinema and is chosen by a panel of distinguished figures within the Indian film sector. The accolade includes a certificate, a shawl, and a monetary award of ₹5,00,000. [1]

Contents

The Government of Maharashtra created the award to commemorate the contribution of Indian actor & filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Kapoor (1924–1988), who is popularly known as greatest and most influential actor and filmmaker of Indian cinema. [2]

The first recipient of the award was filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, who was honoured at the Maharashtra State Film Awards in 1998. As of 2023, there have been 20 awardees.

Panghrun (transl. Blanket) is an Indian Marathi-language period musical drama film directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and produced by Zee Studios, featuring Amol Bhavadekar and Gauri Ingawale in the leading roles. The film won "The Best Indian Cinema Award (2020)" at Bangalore International Film Festival. Panghrun was theatrically released on 4 February 2022 in Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Playback Singer Female is an honour established in 1962, and presented at the Maharashtra State Film Awards for best female playback singer in Marathi cinema. The first recipient of the award was Asha Bhosle with 18 wins.

Dattatray Ambadas Mayalu (1932), known as Rajdutt, is an Indian director and producer in the Marathi and Hindi film industries. He directed his first film Madhuchandra in 1967. He is a recipient of three National Film Awards, three Filmfare Award Marathi, twelve Maharashtra State Film Awards and Zee Gaurav Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution in Marathi cinema. In 2023, the Government of India, honoured him with Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour for his contributions to Indian culture through performing arts.

Karan B. Rawat is an Indian cinematographer who predominantly works in Marathi and Hindi films. In 2024, he won the Maharashtra State Film Award of Best cinematography for Panghrun film.
