Ralph Desmond Clarke (born 4 October 1951) is an Australian former politician. He was a Labor Party member of the South Australian House of Assembly between 1993 and 2002,representing the electorate of Ross Smith. He was the deputy leader of the State Parliamentary Labor Party,and thus the deputy opposition leader, [1] until he was deposed in factional infighting.
Ross Smith was abolished ahead of the 2002 state election,and Clarke tried to follow most of his constituents into the recreated seat of Enfield. [2] Despite a secret ballot showing 60 of the 74 of the members of de-stacked local branches threw their support behind Clarke for 2002 preselection, [3] the state executive intervened to install John Rau,a former colleague of Clarke's in the Centre Left faction who had made the switch to the Right. [3] Clarke ran as an independent and did very well on 23.1%,however with the ALP vote of 39.5% and Liberal vote of 24.1%,he did not get into the two party preferred race for election.
Clarke contested an upper house seat under a banner of "Buy back ETSA" at the 2006 election but failed with only 0.1% of the vote,only 1115 votes. [4] [5]
Prior to entering parliament,Clarke was Secretary of the Federated Clerks' Union (FCU),and later involved with the Australian Services Union. [6]
In October 2007 Clarke was elected as an Area Councillor for the City of Adelaide.

Rau was the Labor member of the House of Assembly seat of Enfield from the 2002 election until announcing his intention to retire from Parliament on 10 December 2018,and submitting his resignation on 17 December 2018.
Vickie Ann Chapman is a former Australian politician,representing the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Bragg for the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia between the 2002 election and May 2022. Chapman served as the Deputy Premier of South Australia and Attorney-General between 19 March 2018 and 22 November 2021 in the Marshall government. She was the first woman to hold either post.
Enfield is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the suburb of the same name,it is a 16.48 km2 (6.36 sq mi) suburban electorate in Adelaide's inner north,taking in the suburbs of Blair Athol,Broadview,Clearview,Enfield,Kilburn,Lightsview,Northgate,and Sefton Park;and parts of Nailsworth,Northfield and Prospect. The seat was vacant pending a by-election in February 2019—Labor MP John Rau resigned from parliament in December 2018,following Labor's defeat at the 2018 South Australian state election in March. Labor's Andrea Michaels was elected as Rau's successor on 9 February after defeating Independent candidate Gary Johanson in the by-election.

It was created in 1970 and named after Sir James Fisher,a colonial politician and the first mayor of Adelaide. It was abolished in a 2016 redistribution and its last MP,Nat Cook was elected to represent its replacement,Hurtle Vale,at the 2018 state election. The South Australian Liberal Party,officially known as the Liberal Party of Australia (South Australian Division),and often shortened to SA Liberals,is the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia. It was formed as the Liberal and Country League (LCL) in 1932 and became the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party when the Liberal Party was formed in 1945. All 88 seats in the Legislative Assembly and all 40 seats in the Legislative Council were up for election at the time the writs were issued,however the election in the district of Narracan was deferred due to the death of a candidate.
A by-election for the seat of Enfield in the South Australian House of Assembly was held on 9 February 2019. The by-election was triggered by the parliamentary resignation of Labor Party MP and former Deputy Premier John Rau on 17 December 2018. Labor candidate Andrea Michaels retained the seat with an increased margin.
