Staten Island is the southernmost borough of New York City,coextensive with Richmond County and situated at the southernmost point of New York. The borough is separated from the adjacent state of New Jersey by the Arthur Kill and the Kill Van Kull and from the rest of New York by New York Bay. With a population of 495,747 in the 2020 Census,Staten Island is the least populated New York City borough but the third largest in land area at 58.5 sq mi (152 km2);it is also the least densely populated and most suburban borough in the city.

Vito John Fossella Jr. is an American politician serving as the Staten Island Borough President since 2022. A member of the Republican Party,Fossella previously represented the state's 13th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives for six terms,from 1997 to 2009 serving as the lone Republican from New York City. A Staten Island native,Fossella initially took office in 1997 after winning a special election held to replace the resigning Susan Molinari.

Gaetano Victor Molinari was an American lawyer and Republican politician from New York city. He represented Staten Island in the United States House of Representatives for four terms (1981–1989) and then served 12 years as Staten Island borough president (1990–2002). His daughter,Susan Molinari,also served as a U.S. Representative.
James Steven Oddo is an American attorney and politician who served as the Borough President of Staten Island from 2014 to 2021. Oddo had previously served as a member of the New York City Council,representing the 50th district from 1999 to 2013. He is currently serving as the Commissioner for the New York City Department of Buildings under Mayor Eric Adams.
Staten Island Academy is a coeducational,college-preparatory day school located on a 14-acre (57,000 m2) campus in Staten Island,New York City,United States. Founded in 1884 by Anton Methfessel,it is the oldest independent school on Staten Island,and is the only independent school in the borough. It educates students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The current enrollment is around 390 students,with a student to teacher ratio of 7:1. Eileen Corigliano is the current head of school. The school is composed of three divisions:Lower School,Pre-K-Gr. 4;Middle School,Gr. 5-8;Upper School,Gr. 9-12. The Head of Lower,Middle and Upper School is Eileen Corigliano. The campus has seven buildings:the Early Childhood Building,the Art Barn,Haugen Hall,Kearns Hall,Crowe Hall,Alumni Hall and the OJ Buck Gymnasium. The school's accreditations include the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools,and the New York State Association of Independent Schools. It is chartered and registered by the Board of Regents,University of the State of New York.
The borough presidents are the chief executives of the five boroughs of New York City. For most of the city's history,the office exercised significant executive powers within each borough,and the five borough presidents also sat on the New York City Board of Estimate,which was abolished in 1990. After the Board of Estimate was disbanded,the borough presidents were stripped of a majority of their powers in the government of New York City.

It is located at the intersection of Richmond Terrace and Bay Street,near Staten Island Borough Hall,SIUH Community Park and Richmond County Supreme Court. St. George is a rare example of a rail-boat connection in the United States.
Susan E. Wagner High School is a New York City public school located at 1200 Manor Road in Staten Island,New York. The school is owned and run by the New York City Department of Education. It opened in September 1968,and was named in honor of Susan E. Wagner (1909–1964),the late wife of former mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr. On average,the school has about 3,300 students. Wagner's school colors are Navy and White,with the Falcon as the mascot. Wagner has a variety of programs including the Law and Politics program,the Virtual Enterprise program,the Scholars Academy,Air Force JROTC,Theatrical Arts program,and annual SING! productions. The school has the largest marching band in New York City,with over 150 members. The school received the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in the 1988–1989 school year.
Kenneth C. "Ken" Mitchell is a Democratic Party politician from the New York City borough of Staten Island who had served in the New York City Council representing the North Shore of that borough. He is currently the executive director of the Staten Island Zoo. From March 1,2010,to October 3,2011,Mitchell served as interim executive director of the institution.
Leticia M. Remauro is an American businesswoman,politician,and author. In her campaign for Staten Island borough president in 2021,she placed third in the primary election for the Republican Party nomination,and placed third in the general election as the Conservative Party candidate. In 2020,at a rally protesting COVID-19 restaurant closures by Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio,Remauro used the phrase "Heil Hitler" while criticizing Sheriffs' enforcement of the safety regulations.
A special election for New York's 11th congressional district was held on May 5,2015,to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Grimm. Grimm,a member of the Republican Party,announced on December 30,2014,that he would resign from the House effective January 5,2015,and not take his seat for a third term following his guilty plea for tax evasion. On May 5,2015,Republican candidate Dan Donovan defeated his Democratic challenger Vincent Gentile in the election and filled the vacant seat.
