Staten Island is a borough of New York City,coextensive with Richmond County,in the U.S. state of New York. Located in the southwest portion of the city,the borough is separated from New Jersey by the Arthur Kill and the Kill Van Kull and from the rest of New York by New York Bay. With a population of 495,747 in the 2020 Census,Staten Island is the least populated of the boroughs but is the third largest in land area at 58.5 sq mi (152 km2).
Vito John Fossella Jr. is an American Republican politician from the state of New York who currently serves as Staten Island Borough President. He formerly represented the state's 13th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives for six terms,from 1997 to 2009 serving as the lone Republican from New York City. Fossella,a Staten Island native,was born to a family that included several politicians. Fossella initially took office in 1997,after winning a special election held to replace the resigning Susan Molinari.

Founded in 1883 and with an enrollment of approximately 2,200 students,Wagner is known for its academic program,The Wagner Plan for the Practical Liberal Arts. Susan E. Wagner High School is a New York City public school located at 1200 Manor Road in Staten Island,New York. The school is owned and run by the New York City Department of Education. It opened in 1967,and was named in honor of Susan E. Wagner (1909–1964),the late wife of former mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr. On average,the school has about 3,300 students. Wagner's school colors are Navy and White,with the Falcon as the mascot. Wagner has a variety of programs including the Law and Politics program,the Virtual Enterprise program,the Scholars Academy,Air Force JROTC,Theatrical Arts Academy,and annual SING! productions. The school has the largest marching band in New York City,with over 150 members. The school received the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in the 1988-1989 school year.
Kenneth C. "Ken" Mitchell is a Democratic Party politician from the New York City borough of Staten Island who had served in the New York City Council representing the North Shore of that borough. He is currently the executive director of the Staten Island Zoo. From March 1,2010,to October 3,2011,Mitchell served as interim executive director of the institution.
Nicole R. Malliotakis is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 11th congressional district since 2021. Her constituency covers Staten Island and southern Brooklyn.
A special election for New York's 11th congressional district was held on May 5,2015,to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Grimm. Grimm,a member of the Republican Party,announced on December 30,2014,that he would resign from the House effective January 5,2015,and not take his seat for a third term following his guilty plea for tax evasion. On May 5,2015,Republican candidate Dan Donovan defeated his Democratic challenger Vincent Gentile in the election and filled the vacant seat.

The first Muslim elected to the Assembly,Fall was born and raised on Staten Island following his parents' immigration from Guinea. He previously served as the Staten Island borough director for Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio,as well as the Chief of Staff to the New York City Parks Borough Commissioner for Staten Island. Fall has earned degrees from both Southwestern College and Pace University. He resides in Mariners Harbor.
The 2021 New York City borough president elections were held on November 2,2021. Four of the five incumbent borough presidents were unable to run for reelection due to term limits. Only the Queens borough president was eligible to seek re-election after winning a special election in 2020.
