The Ramanathapuram Mandai dog, Ramanathapuram Mandai dog or herd dog (Ramnad Kombai, Ramanathapuram komba dog or manthai dog) is a dog breed found in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. Mandai dogs are hound dogs, [1] In many temple sculptures of Ramanathapura district, a sculpture of this dog is found, indicating the long presence of this dog in the district. [2] [3]

This dog is 26 to 30 inches tall, with a large body, large legs, strong bones, and a thick tail. And its head is large, with a broad jaw, a blunt thick nose, a broad curved forehead, and large ears that hang down like the ears of a goat. Its feet and tip of the tail are white. It can live for 18 to 19 years. [4]

The Artois Hound is a rare breed of dog, and a descendant of the Bloodhound. A scent hound 22–23 inches high at the withers, weighing anything between 55 and 65 pounds, it is a well constructed dog with a slow graceful gait. The Bavarian Mountain Hound is a breed of dog from Germany. As a scent hound, it has been used in Germany since the early 20th century to trail wounded game. It appears to be a cross between a Bloodhound, Labrador Retriever, Great Dane, German Shepherd, Beauceron, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and a Hanover Hound. This dog needs plenty of exercise and if not given the correct mental and physical stimulation can be prone to depression and sometimes become destructive, though having all these traits they are very kind loving dogs that are great with kids and adults. Sivaganga District is one of the 38 districts in Tamil Nadu state, India. This district was formed on 15 March 1985 by trifurcation of Ramanathapuram district into Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Sivagangai districts. Sivaganga is the district headquarters. Karaikudi and Sivaganga are the most populous Towns in the district. It is bounded by Pudukkottai district on the Northeast, Tiruchirapalli district on the North, Ramanathapuram district on South East, Virudhunagar district on South West and Madurai District on the West. The Karakachan dog is a breed that originated from Bulgaria. It is related to the livestock guardian dogs of the surrounding countries: Romania to the north, North Macedonia and Serbia to the west, and Greece, and Turkey to the south. The dog is named after the Karakachans, Greek nomadic shepherds. Due to their conservative stock-breeding traditions, they have preserved some of the oldest breeds of domestic animals in Europe: the Karakachan sheep, Karakachan horse and the Karakachan dog. It is very similar to the Torniak dog, used by Vlach shepherds of Bosnia and Croatia.

The Vikhan is a breed of livestock guardian dog from Pakistan and India. In Pakistan, it is found specifically the Chitral region of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, while in India, it is found in Himachal Pradesh. The breed's name is derived from the Sanskrit word "vikh", meaning broken, noseless or hermit. It is possible the name was given due to the broken, uneven land on which it is found, or because the breed often lives in solitude from other parts of the Indian sub-continent.

Thought to be ancient in origin, the Greek Shepherd is very closely related to livestock guardian dog breeds from neighbouring countries; it is believed that some dogs are simultaneously claimed to be other breeds as they migrate annually across national borders with the flocks they protect in search seasonal pastures.
