Ramesh Chandra Sen (born 30 April 1940) [1] is a Bangladeshi politician who is the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Thakurgaon-1 constituency,and a former Minister of Water Resources.
Sen was born at Mondaladum village at Ruhia Union in Thakurgaon district,Bengal Presidency,British India (now Bangladesh). His mother's name was Balashoree Sen and father's name was Khitindra Mohan Sen. He passed his B.com degree from Carmichael College,Rangpur in 1963.
Sen was elected MP (Member of Parliament) from Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the 7th and the 9th national parliamentary election in 1996 and 2008. [2] He is the chairman of parliamentary standing committee on water resources ministry. [3] He is the Presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League.
Thakurgaon is a district in the north-western side of Bangladesh. It is a part of the Rangpur Division and borders India to the west. It was established as a mahakuma in 1860 consisting of 6 thanas named Thakurgaon sadar,Baliadangi,Pirganj,Ranishankail,Haripur and Ruhia. In 1947,it was re-established as a mahakuma including 3 thanas of Jalpaiguri and a thana of kochbihar of India. In 1981,Atoari was included in the new Panchagarh district and the area was shrunk in just 5 thanas. It was then established as a district on 1 February 1984.
Sen is a native Bengali Hindu surname derived from "Sena",the Sanskrit word for "army".
