The Samajwadi Party is a socialist political party in India. It was founded by formerly Janata Dal politicians Mulayam Singh Yadav and Beni Prasad Verma and is headquartered in New Delhi. The Samajwadi Party is currently led by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,Akhilesh Yadav after he was chosen as the President at the party's national convention held in 2017.

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was an Indian politician who served as the 11th vice president of India. He served in that position from August 2002,when he was elected to a five-year term by the electoral college following the death of Krishan Kant,until he resigned on 21 July 2007,after losing the presidential election to Pratibha Patil. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan three times,from 1977 to 1980,1990 to 1992 and 1993 to 1998. He represented several constituencies in Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha from 1952 to 2002. He was also awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 2003.

Karan Singh Yadav is a former Indian politician who was a member of the 16th Lok Sabha. He represented Alwar constituency of Rajasthan,and was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He also served as the president of Rajasthan Yadav Mahasabha. He was an INS candidate in the 2018 assembly elections from the Kishangarh Bas constituency. He had four brothers and sisters,and his father Ganpat Singh Yadav was an educated personality and was associated with the royal family of Bikaner. He died in 1989 due to cardiac arrest. Yadav's mother Sharbati Devi died from cancer in 1981.

Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held on 28 November 2018 to elect members of the 230 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. It is believed that the election was a direct political battle between the BJP and the INC. One of the main centers of attraction was the contest between Congress heavy-weight Arun Yadav and the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
