Ramon Cedric "Ray" Thomas (born 18 November 1932) is a former cricketer and baseballer who represented South Australia in both sports in the 1950s.
Ray Thomas attended Adelaide High School. [1] A right-arm fast-medium bowler,he played most of the 1952–53 season for South Australia,but despite claiming the South African captain Jack Cheetham as his first wicket he was unable to make the most of his opportunities and did not play again after that season. [2] At baseball,he represented South Australia as a pitcher. [3] [4]
Gregory Stephen Chappell is a former cricketer who represented Australia at international level in both Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODI). The second of three brothers to play Test cricket,Chappell was the pre-eminent Australian batsman of his time who allied elegant stroke making to fierce concentration. An exceptional all round player who bowled medium pace and,at his retirement,held the world record for the most catches in Test cricket,Chappell's career straddled two eras as the game moved toward a greater level of professionalism after the WSC schism. He was the vice captain of the Australian squad which finished as runners-up at the 1975 Cricket World Cup.
The South Australia men's cricket team is an Australian men's professional first-class cricket team based in Adelaide,South Australia. South Australia play their home matches at Adelaide Oval and Karen Rolton Oval,they are the state cricket team for South Australia representing the state in the Sheffield Shield competition and the limited overs Marsh One-Day Cup. The team is selected and supported by the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA). Their Marsh One-Day Cup uniform features a red body with black sleeves. They were known as the Southern Redbacks from 1995 to 2024,and officially competed under the West End Redbacks moniker from 1996 to 2024 due to a sponsorship agreement with West End. The Redbacks formerly competed in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash,but were succeeded by the Adelaide Strikers in 2011 because this league was replaced with the Big Bash League.
Victor York "Yorker" Richardson,nicknamed The Guardsman,was a leading Australian sportsman of the 1920s and 1930s,captaining the Australia cricket team and the South Australia Australian rules football team,representing Australia in baseball and South Australia in golf,winning the South Australian state tennis title and also being a leading local player in lacrosse,basketball and swimming.
Clement"Clem" Hill was an Australian cricketer who played 49 Test matches as a specialist batsman between 1896 and 1912. He captained the Australian team in ten Tests,winning five and losing five. A prolific run scorer,Hill scored 3,412 runs in Test cricket—a world record at the time of his retirement—at an average of 39.21 per innings,including seven centuries. In 1902,Hill was the first batsman to make 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year,a feat that would not be repeated for 45 years. His innings of 365*,scored against New South Wales for South Australia in 1900–01,was a Sheffield Shield record for 27 years. The South Australian Cricket Association named a grandstand at the Adelaide Oval in his honour in 2003 and he was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2005. Hill is regarded as one of the best batsman of his era.
William Harold PonsfordMBE was an Australian cricketer. Usually playing as an opening batsman,he formed a successful and long-lived partnership opening the batting for Victoria and Australia with Bill Woodfull,his friend and state and national captain. Ponsford is the only player to twice break the world record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket;Ponsford and Brian Lara are the only cricketers to twice score 400 runs in an innings. Ponsford holds the Australian record for a partnership in Test cricket,set in 1934 in combination with Don Bradman —the man who broke many of Ponsford's other individual records. In fact,he along with Bradman set the record for the highest partnership ever for any wicket in Test cricket history when playing on away soil

Douglas Thomas Ring was an Australian cricketer who played for Victoria and for Australia in 13 Test matches between 1948 and 1953. In 129 first-class cricket matches,he took 426 wickets bowling leg spin,and he had a top score of 145 runs,which was the only century of his career.

In June 2014,Thomas took four wickets in four balls in a County Championship game against Sussex. He was a pioneer of death bowling in the early years of T20 cricket.
The Fitzroy Baseball Club,known as the Fitzroy Lions,is a baseball club founded in 1889 to represent the inner Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy,Victoria. The club was a founding member of the Victorian Baseball League,Victoria's first organised baseball competition. Raymond Bernard Strauss was an Australian sportsman who played both cricket and field hockey at high levels. From Perth,Western Australia,Strauss attended Perth Modern School and later the University of Western Australia,playing for the university's hockey club. Twice named captain of the all-Australian universities side,he was captain of the side on several occasions,including when the team shared the 1952 Syme Cup with the University of Adelaide. Strauss represented Western Australia on various occasions from 1949 to 1955,and made his Test debut for the Australian national team in August 1954,against New Zealand,though it is unclear if he played further matches for the national side. At both club and state levels,he had largely played as a defender,usually as a fullback,and was known for his "interceptions and long clearances".
Henry Frederick Lorenz Kortlang or Harry Herbert Lorenz Kortlang,known as Bert J. Kortlang was an Australian cricketer who also held US citizenship due to his father having been born in New York City. He played 17 first-class cricket matches for Victoria between 1910 and 1912,and 15 matches for Wellington in New Zealand between 1922 and 1927. He also played for an Australian XI in 1911 and for a New Zealand XI in 1924.
