Ranguana Caye is a private island with a total area of two acres, approximately 20 miles west of Placencia, Belize. [1] The island harbors a dock and moorings for visiting boats which is located just off the Belize Barrier Reef. [2] Daytime visits are available through RanguanaCaye.com, and you can spend a night in the cabins located there as well. The island features different activities like paddleboarding in crystal clear water, fishing, kayaking, hammock napping, sunbathing, and playing beach games. The Edge of Paradise Bar & Grill located at the front of the island offers a variety of food and drinks that are freshly made and served throughout the day

History

With the 17th-century origins of Belize traced back to two different myths, it is potentially believed [ according to whom? ] that Ranguana Caye formally called Cayo Renegado, was "the base of the 'renegade' " Spaniard Diego el Mulato." [3]

Goff's Caye is a small island off the shore of Belize City, Belize. It sits right on the edge of the Belize Barrier Reef with waters to the south and east being only 0.6 to 3 metres deep. Goff's Caye is registered as an archaeological site due to its colonial-era settlement. During the Colonial times, the island served as a fishing camp, trade center and cemetery. Among those interred in the cemetery are a number of crew members from HMS Blossom, who died of Yellow Fever during a visit to the colony in August 1830.

The atoll is of oblong shape, approximately 35 kilometres (22 mi) long from north to south, and about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) wide. This small village has roughly 1,000 inhabitants, mostly Garifuna people who subsist on fishing, hunting, and homegrown vegetables. The early settlers named their village for their favored fishing tackle, Seine fishing and a bight, a bend or curve in a coastline.

Moho Caye, known locally as Wild Orchid Caye, is an 8.38 acre island located in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Belize. The island is located 12 miles east from Placencia, 9 miles from the Belize Barrier Reef, and has around 2,980 feet of beach.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Principality of Islandia</span> Micronation in the Caribbean Sea

The Principality of Islandia is an incipient micronation that claims Coffee Caye in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Belize as its territory. Coffee Caye is a currently uninhabited island of 1.2 acres (0.5 ha) separated by a short boat trip from Belize City. Founded in 2018 by Gareth Johnson and Marshall Mayer, the project is the first attempt to create a micronation to be crowdfunded. At present the island, which is covered in mangroves and surrounded by coral reefs, can be rented for camping excursions.
