Rakesh Sethulingam sought to popularise rap when it was under-represented in Tamil music. Inspired by 'Pettai Rap', he composed a song in 2009, performed it at IIT Saarang, and won first prize. Since then, he has been known as 'Rap Rakesh', first to friends and then to Facebook fans. [1] In 2014, he released the song 'Munne Vaada' which is centered around female empowerment. [2] In 2016, Rakesh released a music video on that subject entitled '12 AM (Women Empowerment)'. The video is about a woman who was robbed and brutally killed by kidnappers. It was released by Vijay Sethupathi. [3] [4]
