Rasul Barrage is a barrage on the River Jehlum between Jhelum District and Mandi Bahauddin District of the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is situated 72 km downstream of Mangla Dam.

New Barrage and old barrage

The current structure of the barrage was constructed in 1968 and the old barrage (built by the British) has been dismantled. The Punjab Irrigation Department's Sargodha Zone is responsible for the operation of this barrage. Rasul Barrage is used to control water flow in the River Jhelum for irrigation and flood control purposes.

Rasul Barrage has a discharge capacity of 24070 cubic meter per second. [1] Water is diverted from this point to Chenab River at Qadirabad through Rasul-Qadirabad link canal, then ultimately transferred to Sulemanki Barrage on the Sutlej River. Rasul-Qadirabad link canal has the second largest water discharge capacity after Chashma-Jhelum link canal. It has 538-m³/s discharge capacity while Chashma-Jhelum link canal has 615-m³/s capacity. Lower Jhelum Canal, with a discharge capacity of 5280 cusecs also emanates from river Jhelum at this barrage. [2]

This canal has culturable command area of 1.45 million acres and irrigates the districts of Mandi Bahauddin and Sargodha.

A small hydropower plant of 22 MW (two units of 11 MW each) generation capacity was also put into operation on Upper Jhelum Canal at Rasul, Punjab in December 1952 with average annual yield of 63 (GWh). [3]

Chashma Barrage is a barrage on the River Indus in the Mianwali District of the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is 304 km northwest of Lahore and 56 km downstream of Jinnah Barrage. The contract for Chashma Barrage works was awarded on 10 February, 1967, to French Consortium Société Dumez and Société Borie and was successfully completed by 25 March, 1971. The total cost of Chashma Barrage works was Rs.399 million but power generation started later in 2001. The installed capacity of power station is 184 MW, from eight Kaplan-type bulb turbine units, each with a 23 MW capacity. The bulb turbines have been installed for the first time in Pakistan. The first unit was commissioned in January 2001, while final commissioning of all units was completed in July 2001. The 8 Kaplan-type turbines and synchronous generator units were made by Fuji, Japan.

Khanki Headworks is a headworks situated on the River Chenab in Gujranwala District of the Punjab province of Pakistan. The construction of this headworks was completed in 1889 and was one of the oldest headworks in Pakistan.

Chahrkey is a village located at Latitude 32°25'8.08 Longitude: 73°50'4.35 in tehsil Phalia, Mandi Bahauddin District, Punjab, Pakistan. This beautiful locality is situated on the bank of Chenab River. Its estimated terrain elevation above sea level is 219 metres. The nearest towns are Jokalian, Khoosar, Narang, Kamonkey, Ratti Pindi and Saad Ullah Pur. On the other bank of Chenab River, Ali Pur Chatta and Rasulnagar are situated. The earlier name of Rasulnagar was Ramnagar. Chahrkey is full of lush green fields. In 1973, the village almost drowned in a flood and then the government built a flood safety wall on its south side to save the population of numerous villages, in future. Qadirabad Headworks is situated 6 km west of Chahrkey on Chenab River. A battle fought on 22 November 1848 in nearby towns of Saad Ullah Pur and Ramnagar between British Army and Khalsa Sikh . Chahrkey is included in the Constituency PP-117. The earlier Name of this constituency was PP-99 and it was changed in 2008 elections.
