Rattray Park is a recreational and a modern amusement park located in Kumasi in the capital city of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The park was constructed by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in its bid to restore Kumasi as the Garden City of West Africa. It was inaugurated by the President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II along with the Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu on June 20, 2015. [1] [2]
The park was christened Rattray to honour Captain Robert Sutherland Rattray, a Scottish who was the Assistant Colonial Secretary in the Gold Coast and clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Accra in 1919. [3]
The park's facilities include an artificial lake, a golf cart, WiFi connection, children's playground, a gym and a 6 square meter dancing fountain which is the first of its kind in the country. There are also other amenities such as restaurants and cafeterias. [4]
John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor is a Ghanaian politiciana who served as the tenth president of Ghana from 2001 to 2009. He was the fifth chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008 and his victory over John Atta Mills at the end of Jerry Rawlings' second term marked the first transition of power in Ghana from a democratic party to another democratic party.

He previously served as the 12th president from 2012 to 2017 and as the fifth vice president from 2009 to 2012. Mahama took office as president for the first time on 24 July 2012, following the death of his predecessor, John Atta Mills.
Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana. It forms part of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana with Kumasi being its administrative capital. The metropolis is located in the central part of Ashanti Region and has Kumasi as its capital city. With a projected population of over two million and an annual growth rate of about 5.4%, it is a rapidly expanding metropolis. The Metropolis is about 254 kilometers long, with a centrally located commercial area and a largely circular physical structure. The fast rate of urbanization is confirmed by estimates that 48%, 46%, and 60% of the Metropolis are rural, peri-urban, and urban, respectively.

Prempeh I International Airport is an international airport in Ghana serving Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, other regions in the middle belt of Ghana as well as the northern part of Ghana. In 2023, the airport handled over 400,000 passengers, making it the second busiest airport in Ghana after Kotoka International Airport in Accra. in September 2024, its name changed from Kumasi Airport to Prempeh I International Airport, named after the Asante King Prempeh I.
Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is a Ghanaian academic and politician who currently serves as the eighth vice president of Ghana under President John Mahama since 7 January 2025. She previously served as Minister for Education from February 2013 to January 2017 under President Mahama's first administration. She is a professor of literature, and served as the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana when she took over as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. She served as the Chancellor of the Women's University in Africa in Zimbabwe until her resignation in August 2024.
Mahamudu Bawumia is a Ghanaian politician and former central banker who served as the seventh vice president of Ghana from 7 January 2017 to 7 January 2025 under President Nana Akufo-Addo. He was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nominee for president in the 2024 general election.
The railway system in Ghana has historically been confined to the plains south of the barrier range of mountains north of the city of Kumasi. However, the 1,067 mm narrow gauge railway, totalling 1,300 kilometres, is undergoing major rehabilitation and inroads to the interior are now being made. In Ghana, most of the lines are single tracked, and in 1997 it was estimated that 32 kilometres were double tracked.

Paul Victor ObengKSG also known as P. V. Obeng was a Ghanaian mechanical engineer and politician. He was the chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology council. In 2010, he was appointed by the President John Atta Mills administration as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). Until his death, he was the Senior Presidential Adviser at Presidency to President John Dramani Mahama. He served under President's Jerry John Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama in different capacities. He was a member and coordinating secretary and chairman of the Committee of Secretaries of the Provisional National Defence Council. He died on 17 May 2014.
The 2015 Accra floods resulted from heavy continuous rainfall in Accra, the largest city in Ghana. The rain started on 1 June 2015. Other causes of this flood is as a result of the improper planning of settlement in Accra, choked gutters which block the drainage system and a few other human factors. The floods have resulted in heavy traffic on the roads in the city and also a halt in commercial activities as markets were flooded and workers trapped. Mayor of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije described the flooding as critical. At least 25 people have died from the flooding directly, while a petrol station explosion caused by the flooding killed at least 200 more people.
Amakom is a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It is located in between Asokwa and Asafo Kumasi. It has a market called Anwona dwam where traders from nearby towns come and sell and buy. It has about close to 10 areas and has contributed to the progress of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and Ghana as a whole. It is believed that Manhyia came to meet Amakom in existence same as Kumasi. Amakom is one the oldest suburbs in Kumasi and Ashanti region.
Fodoa or Fodowa is a town in the Kwahu West Municipal District of the Eastern Region of Ghana.
John Mahama's first tenure as President of Ghana began when he succeeded John Atta Mills following the latter's death in office on 24 July 2012. Mahama previously served as Vice-President of Ghana from January 2009 to July 2012, and is the first head of state of Ghana to have been born after the country's independence. He was elected after the December 2012 election for a full term as president.
Kojo Bonsu is a Ghanaian businessman, sports administrator, and politician, who served as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2016. He is a member of the National Democratic Congress.
Osei Assibey Antwi is a Ghanaian administrator and politician who is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He is currently the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) doubling as the Mayor of Kumasi.
Barima Nana Akwasi Agyeman was a Ghanaian civil servant and a member of the Asante Royal family who served as Mayor of Kumasi serving as Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. He was popularly known as Okumkom, literally meaning ''killer of hunger''. He is the longest serving mayor of Kumasi serving for over 20 years as mayor. He died at the age of 86. He was a prominent member of National Democratic Congress.
Tamale Senior High School formerly Government Secondary School, Tamale, Gbewaa Secondary School, and more recently Tamale Secondary School is a co-educational second cycle boarding school located at Education Ridge, a suburb of the Sagnarigu Municipality. The school was founded in 1951 by the then British Colonial Authorities as the first second cycle institution of the Northern Territories.
