Ravi Sarma is an Indian actor who works in the Assamese cinema. [1] He has starred in films like Hiya Diya Niya , Tumi Aahibaane , Iman Morom Kiyo Lage, Aami Asomiya, Sri Raghupati etc.

Career

Ravi Sarma's debut Assamese film was Hiya Diya Niya (2000) directed by Munin Barua. He then went on acting in Tumi Aahibaane (2017) directed by Prerana Barbarooah, Poley Poley Urey Mon (2011) directed by Timothy Das, Sri Raghupati (2023) directed by Suvrat Kakoti etc. He has also acted in many mobile theatres of Assam. At present, he is associated with Hengool Theatre.[ citation needed ]

Political life

Ravi Sarma has joined Bharatiya Janata Party on 2 August 2019. [2] He resigned from Bharatiya Janata Party to protest against the Centre’s move immediately after the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, was tabled in the Lok Sabha on 9 December 2019. [3]

Hiya Diya Niya is a 2000 Indian Assamese romantic drama movie directed by Munin Barua and produced under Pooja Motion Pictures. The music was composed by Zubeen Garg. It was released on 25 February 2000. This film marked Assamese's first film to be shot outside India.

Munin Barua was an Indian film director in Assamese cinematography. Among his best-known films are Pita-Putro, Prabhati Pokhir Gaan, Hiya Diya Niya, Daag, Nayak and Bidhata. Barua is widely regarded in Assam to have been one of the directors who helped popularize and establish Assamese cinema outside the state, primarily elsewhere in India where other industries had historically dominated. In 2000, his film Hiya Diya Niya became a first 'blockbuster hit' in Assamese cinema, which helped to revive the Assamese film industry. His another film, Dinabandhu received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese in 2005.

Poley Poley Urey Mon is a 2011 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Timothy Das Hanche, produced by Phukan Konwar, Purnananda Gogoi and Beauty Baruah under the banner Hills Motion Pictures Association of Diphu. The casts of the movie are Nipon Goswami, Moloya Goswami, Barsha Rani Bishaya, Gayatri Mahanta, Ravi Sarma, Rimpi Das, Parineeta Borthakur, Tarun Arora, Mahika Sharma etc. Bollywood actor Raza Murad and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi also performed a cameo in this movie.

Sri Raghupati is an Indian Assamese-language crime thriller film directed by Suvrat Kakoti. It stars Ravi Sarma, Arun Hazarika, Arun Nath, Priyam Pallavi, and Preety Kongana in lead roles. The film is about the issue of women trafficking in the region. It was released in Assam and some cities outside Assam. It is the highest grossing Assamese film of all time surpassing Bidurbhai (2024).
