The music of Assam consists various genres of folk and modern music, drawing its artistic basis from the history of Assam, from Assamese culture and its ancient traditions. In recent times, starting from the late eighties, popular artistes have modernized the music catering to local popular demand.
Assamese cinema is the Indian film industry of Assamese language. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie Joymoti. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style. In the beginning the industry were called Jollywood, for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.
Kopil Bora is an Assamese actor, anchor and All India Radio voice artist. He debuted in Bidyut Chakravarty's 2002 Assamese film Gun Gun Gane Gane and known for his performance in Mon (2002), Ahir Bhairav (2008), Jetuka Pator Dore (2011) and Dwaar (2013).
Borgeets are a collection of lyrical songs that are set to specific ragas but not necessarily to any tala. These songs, composed by Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhavdeva in the 15th-16th centuries, are used to begin prayer services in monasteries, e.g. Satra and Namghar associated with the Ekasarana Dharma; and they also belong to the repertoire of Music of Meghalaya outside the religious context. They are a lyrical strain that express the religious sentiments of the poets reacting to different situations, and differ from other lyrics associated with the Ekasarana Dharma. Similar songs composed by others are not generally considered borgeets.

The Prag Cine Awards 2013 ceremony, presented by the Prag Network, honored the actors, technical achievements, and films censored in 2012 from Assam and took place on 14 April 2013, at the GMCH Auditorium in Guwahati, India. Bollywood director Kalpana Lajmi, actors Pooja Bhatt, Adil Hussain were present at the event while veteran Assamese actor Pranjal Saikia and Zerifa Wahid hosted the show.
Hiya Diya Niya is a 2000 Indian Assamese romantic drama movie directed by Munin Barua and produced under Pooja Motion Pictures. The music was composed by Zubeen Garg. It was released on 25 February 2000. This film marked Assamese's first film to be shot outside India.
Dhunia Tirutabur is a 2009 Indian Assamese movie directed by Prodyut Kumar Deka and produced by Prodyut Kumar Deka & Pankaj Kalita under Arc Lights. Music was composed by Angarag Papon Mahanta. It was released on 9 January 2009. It received three Assam State Film awards in 2010 in the category of Best Director, Best Editor and Best Make Up.
Hepaah is a 2003 Assamese musical drama film directed by Shankar Borua and produced by Mothiasiga Pictures. The story of the film revolves round the rise of a ragtag band, Hepaah, of small-town musicians and tells the story of hope and frustration of the young generation against the "politically turbulent backdrop" of Assam. The film stars Biju Phukan, Jatin Bora, Geetawali Rajkumari in the lead roles and was released on 19 December 2003.
Poley Poley Urey Mon is a 2011 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Timothy Das Hanche, produced by Phukan Konwar, Purnananda Gogoi and Beauty Baruah under the banner Hills Motion Pictures Association of Diphu. The casts of the movie are Nipon Goswami, Moloya Goswami, Barsha Rani Bishaya, Gayatri Mahanta, Ravi Sarma, Rimpi Das, Parineeta Borthakur, Tarun Arora, Mahika Sharma etc. Bollywood actor Raza Murad and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi also performed a cameo in this movie.
Doordarshan Eti Jantra(English: Television a Machine) is a 2016 Indian Assamese language period comedy drama film directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and produced by Sanjiv Narain under the banner of AM Television. The story is based on National School of Drama's alumnus Himanshu Prasad Das's play Ekhon Gaonot Eta TV Asil. Director Rajesh Bhuyan is also the co screenplay writer along with Santanu Rowmuria. The original playwright Himanshu Prasad Das, and Santanu Rowmuria wrote the dialogues of the film. The film stars many of the renowned actors of Assamese film industry including Jatin Bora, Utpal Das, Prastuti Porasor and Moonmi Phukan in lead role. Released on 2 September 2016 in almost 50 theaters in Assam and Meghalaya (Shillong), the film has already become a superhit in Assam. It is the 12th highest grossing Assamese film.

Calendar is a 2018 Indian Assamese-language drama film directed by Himjyoti Talukdar under the banner of Enajori Talkies. The film stars Moloya Goswami, Arun Nath, Gunjan Bhardwaj and Rimjhim Deka. The movie was released on 16 February 2018 in theatres across Assam. The film has received good word of mouth publicity and the footfall has been increasing since its release. Many people have expressed in social media how this film made them emotional about their relationship with the family especially old parents. The film received the maximum number of seven awards in Prag Cine Awards North East 2018 in various categories. Lead actor Arun Nath won the Jury Special Award in the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival for his performance in the film.

The film stars Bora and Barsha Rani Bishaya, with Nishita Goswami, Pabitra Bora, Chetana Das, and Sanjeev Hazarika in supporting roles and features young Ashramika Saikia. It is the adaptation of 2016 Tamil film Theri.
