Redington is an unincorporated community in Morrill County, Nebraska, United States. [1]

History

A post office was established at Redington in 1886, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1962. [2] The community was named for Henry V. Redington, a pioneer. [3]

Nebraska Highway 88 (N-88) is a highway in northwestern Nebraska. It has a western terminus at Wyoming Highway 151 at the Wyoming–Nebraska state line. The road travels eastward to N-71, where it turns south. N-88 continues east to south of Bridgeport. The road turns north, ends at an intersection with U.S. Highway 385 and N-92 in Bridgeport. The route was designated in 1937, before the official state highway system was created. It was extended to the state line in 1986.

Charles Henry Morrill was a prominent American businessman who played an important role in the history of Nebraska. Morrill County, Nebraska is named after him. He was born in Concord, New Hampshire, the only child of Ephraim and Mahala (Lampery) Morrill. His mother died when he was twelve, and he spent the remainder of his childhood living with his aunt Susan Gay and attending a nearby school, the New London Academy. In the summer of 1862 he enlisted at New London as a musician in Company I, 11th New Hampshire Volunteer Regiment. Three weeks later he married Harriet Zinnia Currier before leaving with his unit. He was present at many important battles, including the Battle of Fredericksburg and the Siege of Vicksburg and mustered out on June 4, 1865.

Fort Sidney is a historic fort located in Sidney, Nebraska, United States. The 37th Infantry Regiment established "Sidney Station" at a point midway between the Platte Rivers, where the modern community of Sidney, Nebraska, now stands. Initially the installation was a block house on a bluff with soldiers residing in tents nearby. That Spring, Fort Sedgewick, Colorado, was abandoned and the wooden buildings moved by mule train to a location beneath the bluffs and on the Lodgepole creek. This new garrison was named Sidney Barracks and would remain so until 1879, when it was designated Fort Sidney.

The Morrill County Courthouse, located on Main St. between 6th and 7th Sts. in Bridgeport, Nebraska, was built in 1909. It is a Classical Revival style building designed by the Eisentraut Company of Kansas City. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
