Reedsy is a British publishing services company.

History

The company was established in 2014 in Shoreditch, London, UK. [1] [2] The name was inspired by the reed-like sedge used to create papyrus. [2] It was initially funded by Seedcamp and DC Thomson [3] co-founded by Emmanuel Nataf, who became CEO. [4]

Contents

Reedsy received 7,000 applications for its marketplace in its first year. [5] It won the 2015 BookTech Gold Award [6] and the 2016 Quantum Publishing Innovation Award. [7]

Services

The company operates a marketplace of freelancers providing publishing services, such as editing, illustrating, translating, marketing, and ghostwriting. [8] Freelancers undergo background checks by the company to be listed. [7] Authors use the marketplace to identify freelancers to work with, comparing previous work and rates. [7] A parallel marketplace for publishers allows for outsourcing of editorial work. [3] Reedsy takes a 10% cut of profit from both the seller and buyer. [9]

Reedsy Studio (formerly Reedsy Book Editor) was launched in 2016. [10] Reedsy Studio is an online tool for book planning, manuscript development and collaborative editing. [10] [11] Companies using the tool include IngramSpark, Kobo Writing Life, and Blurb. [12] [13] Reedsy studio is free to use, but has been criticised for its connectivity issues. [14]

Reedsy Learning is a set of free masterclasses on writing. [15]
