Reggie King Sears (born April 12, 1991) is an American Southern soul and urban adult contemporary R&B singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He first emerged in the early 2000s as a blues guitar prodigy, earning recognition for his instrumental skills and performing with artists such as B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and The Temptations. Over time, Sears evolved into a genre-blending vocalist and producer. His self-described style, known as 'Ghetto soul', fuses Southern soul, Urban contemporary R&B, gospel, hip hop soul, soul blues, funk, and neo soul. He gained underground attention with the track "Dirty Dancer", followed by "You Betrayed Me" and "Luv Gangsta". In 2025, he released the independently produced album Crowned and Dangerous, which marked a return to form and a bold statement of artistic evolution. [1]
Reggie King Sears was born on April 12, 1991, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. [2]
Sears began playing guitar at an early age and by 12 had already started performing publicly. That same year, he appeared at the 17th Annual Fort Lauderdale Sound Advice Blues Festival, performing alongside Fruteland Jackson, Michael Burks, and Solomon Burke. [3] After the festival, Burke took a personal interest in his development, offering guidance and encouraging him to pursue singing in addition to guitar. Burke gave him the "King" moniker, which Sears later adopted as part of his professional name.
Sears' first album Transitions, a jazz-rock influenced collection of classic and obscure blues covers, was released in September 2005. [4] He began touring in support of Transitions, which led to appearances at Sarasota Blues Fest in Sarasota, Florida; [5] Skippers Smokehouse in Tampa, Florida, [6] House of Blues in Orlando, [7] and On the Waterfront in Rockford, Illinois, [8]
In late 2006, Sears released his third album, Southern Soul, Florida Style. His fourth album was released in mid-2007.
In 2010, Sears won a Soul Patrol "best of" in the Slow Jam category for his digital single "You Betrayed Me". [9] In November of that year he released "Dirty Dancer". [10] Sears was nominated for Soul Blues Music Award for "Best New Artist". [11]
Sears released the single "Can't Get You Out of My System" in early 2011. In 2012, he released "With Every Beat of My Heart". [12] In 2015, he opened for Timmy Thomas. [13]
Sears plays a Gibson B.B. King Lucille Signature ES-335, an assortment of Squier Stratocasters, an Epiphone Les Paul, Epiphone SG, and a few Harmony electric guitars. He is best known for playing the Fender Buddy Guy Stratocaster, a guitar he has owned since he was 12 years old. He plays through an amp chain of a Fender Hot Rod Deville, Marshall JCM 2000 and a Dean Markley K-20 amp to get his sound. [14]
