Biography
Born in Ceahlău, Neamț County, Pricopie entered the Chemistry faculty of the University of Bucharest in 1990, graduating in 1995. He also holds a 2005 Ph.D. in Political Science, granted by that institution and by the National School of Political Science and Public Administration. He began working at the latter school in 1998, when he started teaching there and eventually became a professor. He was dean from 2005 to 2007 and from 2008 to March 2012, when he became rector. His government career, spent at the Education Ministry, began in 1996, its first phase ending in 2003. During that time, his posts included that of expert on higher education and on public relations, spokesman, secretary general and adviser to the minister. Subsequently, his positions were as state secretary for higher education (2007–2008) and adviser to the minister (2009), as well as acting minister in May 2008. [1]
Pricopie is married and has two children. [1] He was proposed for the cabinet by the Social Democratic Party (PSD). [2] He left the ministry following a cabinet reshuffle. [3]
In February 2020, in the context of dismissal the PNL government led by Ludovic Orban, PSD and PRO Romania proposed Remus Pricopie for the position of Prime Minister. Representatives of the two political parties argued the proposal, claiming that Remus Pricopie is politically independent, has experience in administration, was a very good minister, is pro-European, and pro-American. Academic positions
Remus Pricopie is Rector of the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), Bucharest (March–December 2012; December 2014–present) [5] and a Professor in the College of Communication and Public Relations (SNSPA). [6]
He has an extensive experience as a teacher and manager in the field of education, his expertise being recognized and appreciated within professional associations and international elite organizations such as: IAU - International Association of Universities (Vice-President and Treasurer since 2017; [7] Board Member since 2012 [8] ), IAUP - International Association of University Presidents (member since 2015), [9] Atlantis Group - 20 former ministers of education from all over the world (member since 2017), [10] Romanian-US Fulbright Commission [11] (President of the Board of Directors since 2015), [12] World Academy of Art & Science (member since 2013), [13] Romanian Association for the Club of Rome – ARCoR (member since 2002). In April 2018, Pricopie was elected President of the Permanent Academic Forum Latin America and the Caribbean - European Union. [15]
Remus Pricopie was responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Romanian Research Strategy (2012–2014) and also contributed to the development and implementation of EU research policies (2012–2014).
After the Communist rulership ended and the former Communist dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu was executed in the midst of the bloody Romanian Revolution of December 1989, the National Salvation Front (FSN) seized power, led by Ion Iliescu. The FSN transformed itself into a massive political party in short time and overwhelmingly won the general election of May 1990, with Iliescu as president. These first months of 1990 were marked by violent protests and counter-protests, involving most notably the tremendously violent and brutal coal miners of the Jiu Valley which were called by Iliescu himself and the FSN to crush peaceful protesters in the University Square in Bucharest.
Parliamentary elections were held in Romania on 30 November 2008. The Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) won three more seats than PSD in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, although the alliance headed by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) won more votes and a fractionally higher vote share. The two parties subsequently formed a governing coalition with Emil Boc of the PDL as Prime Minister.

Victor Viorel Ponta is a Romanian jurist and politician, who served as Prime Minister of Romania between his appointment by President Traian Băsescu in May 2012 and his resignation in November 2015. A former member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and its leader from 2010 to 2015, he was also joint leader (2012–2014) of the then-governing Social Liberal Union (USL), an alliance with the National Liberal Party (PNL). Ponta was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Gorj County from 2004 to 2020. In the Emil Boc cabinet, he was Minister-Delegate for Relations with Parliament from 2008 to 2009.
Ecaterina Andronescu is a Romanian engineer, professor, and politician. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), she sat in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies from 1996 to 2008, representing Bucharest, and was a Senator from 2008 until 2020, for the same city. In the Adrian Năstase cabinet, she was Education Minister from 2000 until June 2003. She held the same position in the cabinet of Emil Boc from 2008 to 2009, in the Victor Ponta cabinet during 2012, and finally in the Viorica Dăncilă cabinet for under 9 months between November 2018 and August 2019. She is married and has one child.
Anton Anton is a Romanian engineer and politician. A member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) and previously of the National Liberal Party (PNL), he served as Education Minister in the Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu cabinet in late 2008, and in 2018–2019 served in the Viorica Dăncilă cabinet as Energy Minister.
Parliamentary elections were held in Romania on 11 December 2016. They were the first held under a new electoral system adopted in 2015, which saw a return to the proportional electoral system last used in the 2004 elections. The new electoral legislation provides a norm of representation for deputies of 73,000 inhabitants and 168,000 inhabitants for senators, which decreased the number of MPs.
Vasilica Viorica Dăncilă is a Romanian politician, former leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), and was Prime Minister of Romania from 29 January 2018 to 4 November 2019. She is the first woman in Romanian history to hold both the office of Prime Minister and that of president of the PSD. In 2014, she was elected to a second term as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), representing the PSD. She was also president of the Social Democratic Women's Organization (OFSD) between 2015 and 2018.
Sorin Mihai Cîmpeanu is a Romanian politician who served as Minister of Education in Ciucă Cabinet. He had previously held the same position in Ponta IV and Cîțu cabinets, and, between 5 and 17 November 2015, acted as Prime Minister of Romania, after President Klaus Iohannis accepted Prime Minister Ponta's resignation. Klaus Iohannis's appointment of Sorin Cîmpeanu was just a stopgap measure until a new candidate for the post was selected.
Ioan "Ionuț" Vulpescu is a Romanian politician. A member of the Chamber of Deputies for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) since 2012, he was the Minister of Culture in the Fourth Ponta Cabinet from 17 December 2014 to 17 November 2015 and has held the position again since 4 January 2017.
Sorin Mihai Grindeanu is a Romanian politician who served as Prime Minister of Romania from January to June 2017 when he was removed by a motion of no confidence adopted by the Parliament. He served as ad interim President of the Chamber of Deputies in November 2021. He currently serves as Deputy Prime Minister of Romania since 25 November 2021 as a part of the Ciucă Cabinet, along with Hunor Kelemen.
Parliamentary elections were held in Romania on 6 December 2020 to elect the 136 members of the Senate and the 330 constituent members of the Chamber of Deputies.
Mihai Tudose is a Romanian politician, jurist and academic, deputy in the Parliament of Romania, a former Minister of Economy in 2017 and a former Prime Minister of Romania in 2018. On 16 January, 2018 he resigned from his position as Prime Minister after his own Social Democratic Party (PSD) retracted its political support for his government. He subsequently switched from PSD to Victor Ponta's party PRO Romania in 2019.
Adrian Curaj is a Romanian electrical engineer who was named Education Minister in the new government of Dacian Cioloș in November 2015. He was removed during a cabinet reshuffle the following July.
Alina Bârgăoanu is a Romanian university professor and the dean of the faculty of communication and public relations of the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration in Bucharest, of which she was the acting rector between 2012 and 2014. She is also the current chair of the board of the European Institute of Romania, a public institution that supports the government of Romania in its policy making as a member of the European Union. She is the holder of a Jean Monnet chair, and is the author or co-author of books and articles in the fields of communication, disinformation and European Union affairs.
Victor Negrescu is a Romanian politician of the Social Democratic Party. He is a Member of European Parliament and he was Minister Delegate for European Affairs in the government of Romania between 2017 and 2018. Since 2007, he is the president and national coordinator of the Romanian network of PES activists.
Cătălin Dragoș Teniță is a Romanian politician serving as a member of the Romanian Parliament, Chamber of Deputies since December 2020.
Ligia Deca is a Romanian politician from the National Liberal Party (PNL). On 3 October 2022, she was sworn in as Minister of Education in Ciucă Cabinet, after the resignation of Sorin Cîmpeanu.
Oana-Silvia Țoiu is Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, a member of the Committee for Labor and Social Protection in the Chamber of Deputies, and was elected as a deputy in 2020 for constituency 42, Bucharest, representing PLUS within the USR PLUS electoral alliance. In 2021, she was proposed as minister of labor in the rejected cabinet of Dacian Cioloș. She graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the University of Bucharest.
