Renuka is an Indian actress who is known for playing the lead role Premi in K. Balachander's Tamil tele-serial of the same name. She has also acted in Malayalam and some Hindi films. [1]

Early life

Renuka's family hailed from the town of Srirangam. Due to adverse circumstances caused by the early death of her father, she was compelled to move to the city of Chennai at an early age in search of work. In a short while, she was able to get a job as a drama artiste with Komal Swaminathan's troupe. [2]

Career

She got the break in Tamil films with the 1989 movie Samsara Sangeetham directed by T. Rajender and in the year 1990, she worked in Malayalam movie Kuttettan . Renuka has worked in a few Tamil films and about 75 Malayalam movies, after she was introduced to Tamil film director K. Balachander by colleague Geetha.

Renuka was cast in a supporting role in the teleserial Kaialavu Manasu directed by Balachander. Following Kaialavu Manasu, Renuka also did a supporting role in Kadhal Pagadai , which made her very popular and lead roles in Premi, Jannal and Ganga Yamuna Saraswati . She also earned good reviews for her performance in Premi.[ citation needed ]

Personal life

Renuka is the eldest daughter in the family and has two younger brothers. In 1998, she married Aloha Kumaran, the chairman and managing director of Aloha India.

Kailasam Balachandar was an Indian playwright, film director, film producer, screenwriter and actor who worked mainly in the Tamil cinema. He was well known for his distinct film-making style, and the Indian film industry knew him as a master of unconventional themes and hard-hitting contemporary subject matter. Balachander's films are well known for their portrayal of women as bold personalities and central characters. Popularly referred to as Iyakkunar Sigaram, his films are usually centred on unusual or complicated interpersonal relationships and social themes. He started his film career in 1964 as a screenwriter and graduated to a director with Neerkumizhi (1965).

Geetha is an Indian actress who appears in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi films. She debuted in the Tamil film Bairavi. Since then she has acted in over 200 films in all major South Indian languages, and in a few Hindi films. She also appears in South Indian television serials. Geetha has won two Filmfare Awards South and Kerala State Film Awards, Karnataka State Film Awards each.

Fathima Babu is an Indian actress, former newsreader and socialite based out of Chennai who hails from Puducherry. Born in a Muslim family, Fathima began her public career as a newsreader for more than 25 years with DD Podhigai, the Tamil version of Doordarshan news, and later worked for Jaya TV. She later converted to Hinduism for her husband. She subsequently moved on to work in television serials, films and theatre performances, operating in the Tamil and Malayalam languages.

Praveena Bhagyaraj was an Indian actress who had worked mainly in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. She married director K. Bhagyaraj in 1981. Praveena starred in several films like Manmatha Leelai, Manthoppu Kiliye, Pasi, Billa and Bhama Rukmani.
