The Republican People's Party of Kazakhstan (QRHP) was an unregistered political party in Kazakhstan that existed from 1998 to 2001. The party was led by ex-Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Akezhan Kazhegeldin. The goal of the QRHP was to establish a democratic state with a socially oriented market economy. [1] However, despite all the attempts, the party was never registered. [2]
The QRHP, along with the People's Congress of Kazakhstan and Democratic Party Azamat was merged into United Democratic Party on 25 December 2001. [3]
Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev is a Kazakh politician and diplomat who is currently serving as the President of Kazakhstan since 20 March 2019. He succeeded Nursultan Nazarbayev, who resigned on 19 March 2019 after 29 years in office.

The Civic Party of Kazakhstan is a defunct political party in Kazakhstan that was led by First Secretary Azat Peruashev. The QAP was formed in 1998 and existed until 2006 when it was merged with Otan.

Democratic Party Adilet was a political party in Kazakhstan that existed from 2004 to 2013 and was led by chairman Tolegen Sydykhov. The party was founded as the Democratic Party of Kazakhstan on 29 April 2004. The Adilet numbered around 70,000 members. The party was built on a territorial basis and had branches in all regions of the countries and in the cities of Astana and Almaty.
Akezhan Kazhegeldin is a Kazakh politician who served as the 2nd Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 12 October 1994 until his resignation on 10 October 1997, ostensibly for health reasons, though many saw it as an act protesting authoritarianism in Kazakhstan. He has accused President Nazarbayev of authoritarianism, nepotism, and indifference to violations of human rights.
The Nur Otan is a big tent political party in Kazakhstan. Being the largest to date, it has been the ruling party of the country since 1999, with a membership claiming to be of over 762,000 people in 2007. Under leadership of former president Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Nur Otan has constantly won Kazakhstan's presidential and national parliamentary elections, more often in recent history with a supermajority number of votes amidst claims of rigging and lack of viable opposition.
Azat Turlybekuly Peruashev (born 8 September 1967 is a Kazakh politician who's serving as the member of the Mazhilis from 2012. He is currently the chairman of the Aq Jol Democratic Party since 2011. From 1998 to 2006, Peruashev was the First Secretary of the Civic Party until its merger with Otan in 2006.

Snap presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 26 April 2015 to elect the President of Kazakhstan. This was the fifth presidential election held and second without having any formal opposition candidates. With the highest-ever nationwide turnout of 95.2%, the result was a victory for long-term incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Nur Otan who received 97.8% of the vote, the largest since 1991, thus winning a fifth term in office while his closest challenger, Turgyn Syzdyqov, received only 1.6% of the votes.

Snap presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 9 June 2019 to elect the President of Kazakhstan following the resignation of long-term President Nursultan Nazarbayev in March 2019. This was the sixth presidential election held since Kazakhstan's independence and the third one in the row to be held on an earlier date. With the lowest turnout of 77.5% since 2005, acting president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Nur Otan won a majority of 71% of the vote, the least amount ever garnered for an incumbent president in Kazakhstan's history which followed by his closest challenger Amirjan Qosanov of the Ult Tagdyry association, whom received 16%, the highest ever for a non-incumbent candidate since 2005.
Serikbolsyn Abdildauly Abdildin was a Kazakh economist, politician, First Secretary of the Communist Party from 1996 to 2010, member of the Mazhilis from 1999 to 2004 and a candidate in the 1999 presidential election. He is often described as "patriarch" for the formation of parliamentarism and the first-drafted Kazakh Constitution in early years of independence. While proclaiming himself as a Communist, Abdildin was vivid supporter for democracy and has called for reforms for a multi-party system with a rule of law.

The United Democratic Party is an unregistered political party in Kazakhstan. It was founded on 25 December 2001 after a merger of People's Congress of Kazakhstan, Republican People's Party of Kazakhstan, and the Azamat Democratic Party. The main reason was due to a need of a stronger, united opposition. At its Congress which was held in January 2002, the UDP advocated for a unicameral parliamentary republic, elections at local level, and snap elections for president and the parliament. The party was never registered nor did it participate in the 2004 Kazakh legislative election due to lack of funds.
