Resonance:Music for Orchestra Vol. 1 is an orchestral album by the German-based alternative electronic band VNV Nation,with the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg,released on May 15,2015 on VNV's own Anachron Sounds label. All songs are from their back catalogue,arranged for orchestra and voice.
It was released on CD and digital formats,as well as a limited edition 6 x 10" vinyl box set. Both the limited edition vinyl and iTunes digital versions have exclusive bonus tracks,both of songs originally from their previous album Transnational. [1]
It was VNV Nation's highest charting release at the time,reaching number 7 in the German charts (two weeks) and no. 73 in the Austrian charts (1 week), [2] and number 3 (1 week) on Billboard's "Classical Crossover" Albums chart. [3]
On the 11th November 2012,VNV Nation played at the first Gothic meets Klassik in Leipzig. [4] This set was accompanied by a full symphony orchestra. It marked the first time VNV Nation had done a set like this. The show was recorded for release,but the recorded audio was unusable. As a result,Ronan began work with the arranger,Conrad Oleak,on plans for an album,later titled Resonance,of VNV Nation songs,scored for orchestra. As well as the original eight songs performed,there were an additional five songs re-written for orchestra. [5] The songs 'Nova (Largo)' and 'Teleconnect,Part 2' were recorded with a piano and string trio ensemble.
The Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg was recorded in the Babelsberg Studios outside Berlin at the end of February 2015,the same studios where scores for films such as The Hunger Games:Mockingjay –Part 1 &Part 2.

VNV Nation is an Irish alternative electronic project led by Ronan Harris in the roles of singer, songwriter, and producer. VNV Nation's sound blends poetic and thought provoking lyrics with a sound that ranges from melodic industrial dance anthems, to haunting ballads and post-classical soundtrack pieces. Their 2015 album Resonance: Music For Orchestra Vol. 1 achieved #4 Classical & #3 Classical CrossoverBillboard chart positions in the US. The "VNV" in the name stands for "Victory Not Vengeance," in keeping with the group's motto, "One should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret."
Combichrist is a Norwegian aggrotech / industrial metal band formed in 2003 by Norwegian vocalist Andy LaPlegua, who also founded the bands Icon of Coil, Panzer AG, Scandinavian Cock and Scandy. Combichrist was formed in Atlanta, Georgia and is now based in Oak Hill, Florida. The band consists of only LaPlegua in the studio, with a changing lineup of live performing members. Releases by the band have been very successful in terms of sales and charted in top positions for dance and alternative charts worldwide.
"Walking in the Air" is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book of the same name. The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman, which has become a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television. The story relates the fleeting adventures of a young boy and a snowman who has come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. "Walking in the Air" is the theme for the journey. They attend a party of snowmen, at which the boy seems to be the only human until they meet Father Christmas with his reindeer, and the boy is given a scarf with a snowman pattern. In the film, the song was performed by St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty, and reissued in 1985 and 1987.
Ronan Harris is the founding member of the act VNV Nation. Harris is credited with the songwriting, production, lyrical, and vocal aspects of the band's music. In the years preceding VNV Nation's debut album, he worked for Q8 Petroleum in central London as an IT manager and was a journalist and webmaster for dark electro magazine Side-Line.
