Mwanza, also known as Rock City to the residents, is a port city on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. With an urban population of 1,120,000 in 2020, it is Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam. It is also the second largest city in the Lake Victoria basin after Kampala, Uganda and ahead of Kisumu, Kenya at least in population size. Within the East African community, Mwanza city is the fifth largest city after Dar, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kampala. It is slightly ahead of Kigali, Kisumu, and Bujumbura in the population of city proper limits. However, in terms of infrastructure, Kigali and Kisumu cities are way ahead of Mwanza. Mwanza city is also the capital city of Mwanza Region, and is administratively divided into two municipal districts within that Region - Ilemela and Nyamagana.

Shabana Football Club, more commonly known as simply Shabana or sometimes Shabana Kisii, is a FKF Premier League club based in Kisii. The club was formed in 1980 by Kisii based businessman Dogo Khan. They won the division title in 2014.They were promoted back to the FKF Premier League after winning the Zone B of the FKF Division One. It had nearly collapsed in 2006 when a dispute over its relegation from the Kenyan Premier League. They were set to play in Nationwide League, the second level tier in Kenya, but refused to participate insisting they belong to the Premier League. As a result, the club did not participate any league in 2007. However the team regrouped and was renamed Gusii United Football Club, eventually returning to league football. Their home stadium is Gusii Stadium.On 28 October 2018, Shabana was upgraded to Kenya's second largest league The Kenya National Super League after defeating Mwatate on penalties the game that went full time 1-1 at Kasarani Stadium Nairobi. The Luo Union was a welfare organisation formed in Nairobi, Kenya, in the early 1920s. This organisation sought to create, expand and govern a general cultural identity among Luo people in East Africa. Luo people are a Nilotic ethnic group native to western Kenya and the Mara Region of northern Tanzania in East Africa. The Luo Union was one of several welfare organisations started during the colonial period in East Africa which aimed at building broad cultural unity. This organisation played a crucial role in creating a collective sense of identity and unity amongst Luo people after the second world war. It was also an important medium of grassroots political support for African Nationalist movements in the 1950s. The Luo Union FC was the unions soccer club. This club would later become Gor Mahia FC, one of Kenya's best performing football clubs.
