Rhythm Sangwan (born 29 November 2003) is an Indian sport shooter who usually competes in 10 meter air pistol and 25 meter pistol. [1] She has won medals in Shooting World Cups and Shooting Championship at junior as well as at senior level. [1] [2]

She won the gold as part of India team in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the Asian Games along with Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh. [3] [4]

Early life

Rhythm's father Narender Kumar, who works in the police department and her mother Neelam encouraged her to take up the sport. At the age of 12 years, Rhythm first visited the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi and started her practice. [5] She initially trained under Vinit Kumar and her mother used to accompany her to the sessions. She studied at the Delhi Public School in Faridabad.

Career

International

In January 2024, Sangwan took part in the Asian Qualifiers at Jakarta and won a bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol to book a berth for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. It is the 16th quota place for the Indian shooters. [6]

In 2023, she took part in the Bhopal World Cup at the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy.

In May 2023, she broke the 29-year old record set by Diana Iorgova, the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games silver medallist. [7] Rhythm shot 595 in women’s 25m pistol qualification round at the ISSF World Cup in Baku. [8] Diana had shot 594 in Milan World Cup in May 1994. She also won the 10m Air Pistol bronze for India. [9]

Domestic

In her first National event at the 61st National Shooting Championship in Thiruvananthapuram, Rhythm bagged three gold medals. [5]

She is the first woman to win a gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games for India – she won the gold at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in the women's 25 metre pistol event. She won two gold medals in 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the first of the two golds in coming in the 25 metre pistol pair event with Anisa Sayyed. She had previously won gold in the 25 metre pistol event at the 2008 Youth Commonwealth Games, which were held in India.

In 2014, Sidhu was the World record holder in the 10-metre air pistol event with a final score of 203.8. Sidhu is right handed and is right eye dominant.

Manu Bhaker is an Indian sport shooter. She has won 2 medals at the Olympics, 21 medals at the World Championships and World Cup, 1 medal at Commonwealth Games, and 7 medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships. Bhaker won the bronze medal in the 10m pistol event at the 2024 Paris Olympics and became the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympics medal. She won another bronze in the 10m pistol mixed team event, thus becoming the first Indian to win two medals in a single Olympic Games.

Esha Singh is an Indian sport shooter. She became the youngest national champion in the 10 meter air pistol in 2018 at the age of 13. Besides 10 meter air pistol, she also competes in 25 meter standard pistol and 25 meter pistol events.

Ria Rajeshwari Kumari is an Indian sports shooter and fashion designer. Kumari is a trap shooter and has won medals in both domestic and international competitions. She won the silver medal at the Women's trap team event in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. In 2024, competed in the Women's trap event in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. At the 2021 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, Sekhon became the first Indian to win a medal in the Women's skeet event of an ISSF World Cup. She is right handed and is right eye dominant. She is part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. She was part of the Indian women's skeet team along with Darshna Rathore and Parinaaz Dhaliwal, that finished fourth in the Asian Games shooting competitions.

Shiva Narwal is an Indian sport shooter. He won the bronze medal in the ISSF world cup 10m Air Pistol mixed event along with Palak. He won the gold medal in Men's 10m air pistol team in the 2022 Asian Games.

Udhayveer Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the 25 meter rapid fire pistol, 25 meter pistol, 25 meter standard pistol and 10 meter air pistol. He won a twenty plus international medals representing India. He is in the Indian Shooting Team since 2018. In 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup he won the 25m pistol bronze at the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, and he and his twin brother Vijayveer Sidhu, along with Raj Kanwar Singh, claimed the Indian team's historic gold medal in the event with a world record score of 1747. He won two golds in 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships. In 2019 he won two golds and a bronze in 2019 ISSF Junior World Cup and later at 2019 Asian Shooting Championships in 25 meter standard pistol he won a gold and a silver. In 2021 at 2021 ISSF Junior World Championships he won an individual gold. In 2022 at ISSF Junior World Cup held at Suhl, Germany he won the silver in 25 meter standard pistol open junior mixed team and later at 2022 ISSF World Shooting Championships he won two golds and a bronze.

Darshna Rathore is an Indian sport shooter. She competes in the skeet discipline. She is part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. She was part of the Indian women's skeet team, along with Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Ganemat Sekhon that finished fourth in the Asian Games shooting competitions.

Divya Thadigol Subbaraju is an Indian sport shooter from Karnataka. She competes in the ISSF 10 meter air pistol discipline. She became the National Champion in 10m Air Pistol 2022. She was part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China and won 2 Silver medals.

Palak Gulia is an Indian sport shooter from village Nimana, Jhajjar, Haryana. She competes in the 10m air pistol discipline. She is part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China.

Arjun Singh Cheema is an Indian sport shooter from Punjab. He competes in the 10m air pistol discipline. He was part of the Indian shooting team that won the 10m air pistol team gold at the 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou, China.

Varun Tomar is an Indian sport shooter. He bagged an Olympic quota berth for the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 10m Air Pistol event by winning a gold medal at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers on 8 January 2024 at Jakarta.

Yang Ji-in is a South Korean sport shooter. She specialises in the 25 m pistol events. She won a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics. In October 2024, She was honored as the female athlete of the year by the International Shooting Sport Federation(ISSF), celebrating her outstanding accomplishments in sport shooting.

Nihal Singh is an Indian para shooter from Rajasthan. He competes in the P3 25m pistol individual event in SH1 category. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris. Despite his quota berth in 50m pistol event being surrendered due to new limitation of quotas per country in each category, he made it to the Paralympics in the P3 25 m pistol SH1 event and also played the mixed event. He finished 10th with a score of 569 in the qualification round and missed the finals. In the P4 50 m pistol SH1 event, he scored 522 and finished 19th in the qualification round.
