Rico Chiapparelli is an American former amateur wrestler and mixed martial arts trainer. Being from Baltimore, Maryland, Chiapparelli became known as the "Baltimore Butcher," he was Junior National Champion as a senior in high school, and then was a standout wrestler for the University of Iowa. [1] While at Iowa, he was an NCAA National Champion in 1987 at 177 lbs. [2] After college, he competed in freestyle wrestling in the men's senior level, and went on to become the USAW National Champion in 1989 at 180.5 lbs. [3]

He would make himself famous in MMA by founding the team Real American Wrestling. Currently, Chiapparelli is a mixed martial arts, submission wrestling, and wrestling instructor.[ citation needed ]

Mixed martial arts career

Having trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Renzo Gracie, [4] Chiapparelli got into MMA when he was asked by his friend and wrestling colleague Tom Erikson to corner him in his debut for the 1996's MARS tournament. [5] Though his participation on the event cost him his relationship with Gracie, after learning of the business and the value of wrestling in the sport, Chiapparelli formed the team RAW or Real American Wrestling. [5] It was soon joined by Erikson, Dan Henderson, Randy Couture, Frank Trigg and Vladimir Matyushenko, among others. [6]

Chiapparelli had his first and only MMA match on September 13, 2003, beating Luiz Pantera in the Jungle Fight promotion in Brazil.

Kevin Randleman American mixed martial arts fighter

Kevin Christopher Randleman was an American mixed martial artist, professional wrestler, and former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Randleman's background was in collegiate wrestling, in which he became two-time NCAA Division I and a three-time Big Ten wrestling champion out of Ohio State University. Randleman competed in the heavyweight and light heavyweight classes in MMA. In addition to competing in the UFC, Randleman also fought for other organizations such as PRIDE, WVR, and Strikeforce. He was previously associated with Mark Coleman's Team Hammer House, before training at Randy Couture's gym in Las Vegas, Nevada. On May 16, 2020, the UFC announced that Randleman would be inducted into the pioneer wing of the UFC Hall of Fame. Randleman is the first fighter to be posthumously inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Carlos Newton Canadian mixed martial artist

Carlos Newton is an Anguillian-born Canadian retired mixed martial artist. He is a former UFC Welterweight Champion and Pride FC Japan MMA Legend. Known as "The Ronin", he competed worldwide in the biggest MMA organizations including UFC, Pride FC, IFL, K-1, Shooto and most recently W-1. He is a 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt alongside his coach Terry Riggs under Renzo Gracie, at Warrior MMA in Newmarket, Ontario. Newton has always been considered a fan favourite and a "Submission Master" and has dubbed his personal fighting style — an amalgam of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Karate, and Boxing — as "Dragon Ball Jiu-Jitsu" in tribute to Dragon Ball, a Japanese manga and anime franchise. As a testament to his worldwide popularity, Newton is one of only a few MMA athletes to ever be allowed to compete in the UFC and Pride FC at the same time. In Canada he is respected as a mixed martial arts pioneer, he was the first Canadian UFC Champion at UFC 31 (Welterweight) defeating Pat Miletich.

Tom Erikson is an American former amateur wrestler and mixed martial artist who competed in the super heavyweight division. Weighing between 127.1 kg and 139.8 kg throughout his career, "The Big Cat" began wrestling at an early age and was twice National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Junior Collegiate Champion at Triton College before achieving National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I honors twice at Oklahoma State University–Stillwater. *Erikson was the 1997 U.S. National Champion, and a member of the 1997 U.S. Senior Freestyle World Team, placing fourth in the World Championships at 130 kg. He embarked on his career in MMA in 1996 and went on to fight in the Pride Fighting Championships, being a founding member of the prestigious RAW team.

Cole Konrad is an American retired mixed martial arts fighter. Konrad won a gold medal at the 2005 Pan-American Championships. He won the NCAA wrestling championships in 2006 and 2007 at 285 pounds and finished third at the 2006 World University Championships at 120 kilograms. Bob Anderson (wrestler) American wrestler and coach

Bob Anderson is an American wrestler and coach. Anderson was born in 1943 in Oakland, California and is from Redondo Beach, California. He attended South High School, where he placed 3rd his junior year, and finished as a state champion his senior year. He won the 1968 Western Regional Olympic Trials and went on to win the 1968 Olympic trials. Anderson attended El Camino College, where he won state as a sophomore had a record-breaking 1 loss the whole season. Anderson ended up transferring to Adams State College; he then became a 2-time NAIA champion, and was Rocky Mountain Champion.Anderson was an NCAA All-American. Anderson competed and won in the 1968 Olympic Trials in Greco-Roman style and was alternate on the 1968 Olympic team. He also wrestled freestyle. He wrestled Greco-Roman in the 1971 Pan American Games, and in Sambo style in August 1979 at the 1979 Pan American Team Championships in San Diego. He coached and competed in the Pan American Games in 1978, earning an individual and a coaching championship. Anderson coached 2 national teams in Sambo, placing 2nd and 3rd. In 1996 Anderson had trained Rolls Gracie, whom he would teach techniques like the Americana Arm Bar. He was a 1996 US Olympic Team wrestling coach. In 2003, he became the World Masters Wrestling Champion at 211 lbs. Anderson has also trained Rulon Gardner, Dan Henderson, Heath Sims, and Randy Couture.

James Patrick Downey III is an American submission grappler, freestyle wrestler, and professional mixed martial artist who competes in the middleweight division of Bellator MMA. As an amateur wrestler, Downey competed at 86 kilograms and was a 2019 Pan American Games medalist and the 2019 US Open National champion. In college, he was an NCAA Division I All–American in 2016 for the Iowa State Cyclones and an NJCAA champion for Iowa Central Community College.
