The Riverton Prize (Norwegian : Rivertonprisen) is a literature award given annually to the best work of Norwegian crime fiction (novel, short story, play, original screenplay). [1]
The prize is named after the Norwegian journalist and author Sven Elvestad (1884-1934) who published detective stories under the pen name Stein Riverton.

Riverton is the name of several places:
Karin Fossum is a Norwegian author of crime fiction, often referred to as the "Norwegian queen of crime".
Tom Egeland is a Norwegian author. His great-grandfather was Jon Flatabø from Kvam in Hardanger, one of the pioneer authors of popular literature in Norway. Egeland's novels are published in Norwegian and translated into 25 languages. His most famous novel is Sirkelens ende, published in English with the title Relic, which deals with several of the same topics as The Da Vinci Code. Egeland's book was published in 2001, two years before The Da Vinci Code.
Halldis Moren Vesaas was a Norwegian poet, translator and writer of children's books. She established herself as one of the leading Norwegian writers of her generation.
Unni Maria Lindell is a Norwegian writer. She is best known for her whodunits crime novels, but has also written a collection of poems and several books for children and young adults.
Tom Kristensen is a Norwegian writer, best known for his books in the thriller genre.
Sven Elvestad was a Norwegian journalist and author. He is best known for his detective stories, which were published under the pen name Stein Riverton and translated into several languages, including German and English.
Jørn Lier Horst is a Norwegian author of crime fiction and a former Senior Investigating Officer at Vestfold police district. His books have been published in over 40 countries and have sold more than ten million copies. Horst made his writing debut in 2004 with Key Witness, based on a true murder story. The detective character in his crime novels is William Wisting, and a television series based on the series premiered in 2019.
Anne Karin Thorhus, known under the pseudonym Kim Småge, is a Norwegian novelist, crime fiction writer, writer of short stories, and children's writer.
Torolf Elster was a Norwegian newspaper and radio journalist, magazine editor, novelist, crime fiction writer and writer of short stories. He was Director-General of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) from 1972 to 1981.
Tor Edvin Dahl is a Norwegian novelist, crime fiction writer, playwright, children's writer, non-fiction writer, translator, literary critic and journalist. He made his literary debut in 1968 with the short story collection En sommer tung av regn. His first novel was Den andre from 1972, and his literary breakthrough was the novel Guds tjener from 1973.
Jan Mehlum is a Norwegian crime fiction writer and sociologist. He was awarded the Riverton Prize in 1998 for the crime novel Kalde hender.
Edith Ranum was a Norwegian crime fiction writer, novelist and playwright.
Sven Viktor Rosendahl was a Swedish journalist, novelist and short story writer. Among his books are the short story collection Svartstarr from 1949 and the novel Gud fader och tattaren from 1951. He was awarded the Dobloug Prize in 1984.
Two Lives is a 2012 German war drama film written and directed by Georg Maas, and starring Juliane Köhler, with Liv Ullmann. Set in Norway and Germany, it is loosely based on an unpublished novel by Hannelore Hippe since released as Ice Ages. The film explores the history of the Lebensborn or war children, born in Norway and raised in Germany. It explores the life of a grown woman who had claimed to have escaped from East Germany, where she was raised, and her Norwegian mother, with whom she is reunited.
Gard Sveen is a Norwegian crime fiction writer. He is a recipient of the Riverton Prize and the Glass Key Award.
Vidar Sundstøl is a Norwegian writer. He received the crime fiction award, the Riverton Prize, for 2008.
Torkil Damhaug is a Norwegian physician and crime fiction writer. He has been awarded the Riverton Prize three times, in 2011, 2016, and 2022.
Chris Tvedt is a Norwegian lawyer and crime fiction writer.
Aslak Nore is a Norwegian journalist, publisher, non-fiction and crime fiction writer. He was awarded the Riverton Prize in 2017.
