Robert Bittenbender is an American mixed media artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. [3] [4] In 2019, Bittenbender was selected to participate in the Whitney Biennial 2019. [5]

Artistic practice

Bittenbender's work often consists of complex assemblages, using a spectrum of materials from found materials, printed materials, zip-ties, photographs, paint, purchased materials, and/or others. [6] Their works have been described as "complex nests." [7]

Artforum is an international monthly magazine specializing in contemporary art. Notably, the Artforum logo is a bold and condensed iteration of the Akzidenz-Grotesk font, a feat for an American publication to have considering how challenging it was to obtain fonts favored by the Swiss school via local European foundries in the 1960s.

K8 Hardy is an American artist and filmmaker. Simone Leigh is an American artist from Chicago who works in New York City in the United States. She works in various media including sculpture, installations, video, performance, and social practice. Leigh has described her work as auto-ethnographic, and her interests include African art and vernacular objects, performance, and feminism. Her work is concerned with the marginalization of women of color and reframes their experience as central to society. Leigh has often said that her work is focused on “Black female subjectivity,” with an interest in complex interplays between various strands of history.

Deana Lawson (1979) is an American artist, educator, and photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work is primarily concerned with intimacy, family, spirituality, sexuality, and Black aesthetics.

Hannah Black is a visual artist, critic, and writer. Her work spans video, text and performance. Charles Mayton is a New York-based painter. His work combines painterly abstraction with the iconography of digital media. Mayton’s visual strategies of appropriation and détournement have been compared to the appropriation art of the Pictures Generation.

Eric National Mack is an American painter, multi-media installation artist, and sculptor, based in New York City.

Maya Stovall is an American conceptual artist and anthropologist. Stovall is best known for her use of ballet and public space in her art practice. She is an assistant professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and lives and works in Los Angeles.
