Robert Bobby George is an athletics coach from Kerala, India. In 2004, he received Dronacharya Award, India's highest award for sports coaching.

Biography

Robert Bobby George was born in Kannur district of Kerala, one of the ten children of Kodakachira George Joseph and Mary Joseph. [2] He completed his engineering degree from College of Engineering, Trivandrum, 1991 batch. [3]

Bobby married Anju in 2000. [1] Couple have two children Aaron and Andriya. [1]

Career

Bobby George was a former national champion in triple jump. [4] He is best known as the coach of his wife and long jump medalist Anju Bobby George. [5] A mechanical engineer, Bobby quit his job in 1998 to become Anju's full-time coach. [4]

In 2018, Bobby was appointed as 'high performance specialist coach' for India. [6] [5]

Anju and Bobby started their athletics training academy named Anju Bobby George Academy in Bangalore, Karnataka under Anju Bobby Sports Foundation. [7] [8]

Awards

In 2003, he received the Dronacharya Award. [9]

Anju Bobby George is a retired Indian athlete. Anju Bobby George made history when she won the bronze medal in long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. With this achievement, she became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics jumping 6.70 metres (22.0 ft). She went on to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Athletics Final in 2005, a performance she considers her best. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Dronacharya Award</span> Indian sports award

The Dronacharya Award, officially known as Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games, is sports coaching honour of the Republic of India. The award is named after Drona, often referred as "Dronacharya" or "Guru Drona", a character from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata of ancient India. He was master of advanced military warfare and was appointed as the royal preceptor to the Kaurava and the Pandava princes for their training in military arts and astras. It is awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Recipients are selected by a committee constituted by the Ministry and are honoured to have done "outstanding and meritorious work on a consistent basis and enabled sportspersons to excel in international events" over a period of four years. Two awards are designated for the lifetime contribution in coaching where the achievements in producing "outstanding sportspersons" over a period of 20 years or more are considered. As of 2020, the award comprises a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of 15 lakh (US$19,000).

Innocent Vareed Thekkethala, known mononymously as Innocent, was an Indian actor, film producer, writer and politician. He predominantly worked in Malayalam films in addition to few Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and English films, mostly in comedic roles. Kho-Kho is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language sports drama film written and directed by Rahul Riji Nair starring Rajisha Vijayan, Mamitha Baiju and produced by First Print Studios. The film received a TRP of 12.7 points during its World Television Premiere, making it the highest ever for a female-centric Malayalam film. As of 2021, He is the only Indian volleyball player to have participated in the World Championship and the Asian Games.

K. P. Thomas also known as Thomas Mash is an athletics coach from Kerala, India. In 2013, he received Dronacharya Award, India's highest award for sports coaching. He is the first-ever Physical Education instructor to win the Dronacharya.
