Robert Dean Garton (born August 18,1933) is an American former politician from the state of Indiana. A Republican,he served in the Indiana Senate from 1970 to 2006. [4] Garton previously served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1957,reaching the rank of First lieutenant. [5] From 1969 to 1970,Garton served on the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. [6] Garton served as President pro tempore of the Indiana Senate from 1980 to 2006. [7] In 2006,Garton lost renomination to Greg Walker. [8]
Rupert Vance Hartke was an American politician who served as a Democratic United States Senator from Indiana from 1959 until 1977. Hartke won election to the Senate after serving as the mayor of Evansville,Indiana. In the Senate,he supported the Great Society and became a prominent opponent of the Vietnam War. Hartke ran for president in the 1972 Democratic primaries but withdrew after the first set of primaries. He left the Senate after being defeated in his 1976 re-election campaign by Richard Lugar.
Birch Evans Bayh Jr. was an American Democratic Party politician who served as U.S. Senator from Indiana from 1963 to 1981. He was first elected to office in 1954,when he won election to the Indiana House of Representatives;in 1958,he was elected Speaker,the youngest person to hold that office in the state's history. In 1962,he ran for the U.S. Senate,narrowly defeating incumbent Republican Homer E. Capehart. Shortly after entering the Senate,he became Chairman of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments,and in that role authored two constitutional amendments:the Twenty-fifth—which establishes procedures for an orderly transition of power in the case of the death,disability,or resignation of the President of the United States—and the Twenty-sixth,which lowered the voting age to 18 throughout the United States. He is the first person since James Madison and only non–Founding Father to have authored more than one constitutional amendment. Bayh also led unsuccessful efforts to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and eliminate the Electoral College.

Edwards served as President pro tempore of the Indiana Senate from 1978 to 1980. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976. He resigned from the State Senate in 1981. In 1982,he went on trial for charges that he accepted a bribe in exchange to push railroad legislation. He died on April 3,2017.
