Robert Naorem is an Indian fashion entrepreneur, designer and makeup artist from Manipur, India. He is known for his contribution towards the handloom and textile of Manipur. [1] [2]
Robert Naorem was born on 15 May 1986 to Naorem Dijamani Singh and Th. Rekha Devi at Wangjing Awang Leikai Thoubal District Manipur. After completing his schooling at Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong, Robert left for Bangalore to join Surana College. In Bangalore, he met people from fashion industry and he had his first exposure to the world of fashion. Although Robert pursued further studies, gaining an MPhil degree in Clinical Psychology later he opt for the career line of makeup artist cum fashion designer. [3]
Lack of support from his family Robert not able to gain any formal training in makeup and designing, however, he practices makeup and designing in a small salon in Bangalore.
In 2011 Robert got an opportunity as a Makeup Director of Blenders Pride Bangalore fashion week. After that he has worked with Bollywood celebrities, fashion, sportsperson and celebrity makeup partner of Femina Miss India. [4] [5]
Robert's debut show was the launch of a Tata motors car in the Taj hotel, Bangalore. His designs contribution improves the heritage of Manipur's fashion. [6]
Robert stay in touch with his hometown which has enabled him to bring back the Manipuri ethnic weaves into fashion. Robert's national and international fashion shows are booming for exhibiting fusion work on traditional Manipuri outfits. [7]
Manipur is a state in northeast India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. It is bounded by the Indian states of Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south and Assam to the west. Meitei, officially known as Manipuri, is a Tibeto-Burman language of northeast India. It is the official language and the lingua franca of Manipur, as well as one of the 22 official languages of the Indian Republic, included in the 8th Schedule to the Indian Constitution. It is one of the advanced literary languages, recognised by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters. It serves as one of the recognised educational and literary languages in Assam and Tripura. Native to the Meitei people, it has around 3 million total speakers, and is used as L1 by around 1.8 million people, predominantly in the state of Manipur, and as L2 by different ethnic groups, in different parts of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh. It was used as a court language in the historic Manipur Kingdom, in accordance to the Manipur State Constitution Act 1947.
The Meitei people, Meetei people, or Manipuri people is an ethnic group native to Manipur. They form the largest and dominant ethnic group of Manipur in Northeast India. They speak the Meitei language, one of the 22 official languages of the Indian Republic and the sole official language of Government of Manipur. The Meiteis primarily settled in the valley areas in modern-day Manipur, though a sizeable population has settled in the other Indian states of Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, also termed as the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, is a literary council dedicated to the active promotion and the development of the literary works in Meitei language in India. It takes one of the vital roles for the development of the Meitei language and Meitei culture, in national as well as international levels. It has its branches in Imphal, Jiribam, Bishnupur and Thoubal inside Manipur and in Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya outside Manipur.
Romi Meitei is an Indian film director and lyricist who works in Manipuri films. He is a recipient of several awards at several film festivals organised in India and abroad and has directed movies for around two decades. Thoiba Thoibi, Inga Nonglakta, Manithoiba, Natephamda Tero, Chumthang Makhong, Mikithi and Dharmagi Mingda Imagidamak are some of the well-known movies he directed.

Moirangthem Inao is a noted Indian playwright, lyricist, producer and director from Imphal, Manipur. He has scripted around 90 plays and most of them are popular radio plays aired on All India Radio, Imphal. Inao has also directed famous Manipuri movies like Nongallabasu Thaballei Manam and Laang. The dialogues from his radio plays have a unique charm and are famous among the radio play lovers of Manipur.
Lourembam Bino Devi is a practitioner and a popularizer of the appliqué art of Manipur called Leeba in the Meitei language. The Leeba art is used in creating Monmai which is a decorative circular appliqué art piece used in covering both ends of the traditional Manipuri bolster pillow. In the olden days, Leeba was practiced at "Phiribi Loishang", which is a house for maintaining clothes worn by the deities and royals. The apparels used by the royals, including shoes, were mostly designed using the Leeba technique. Bino Devi has devoted her life to practice this art form and to revive it by trying to transmit her skills to younger generation of interested women. She has been providing this training in collaboration with the Heritage Foundation of Mankind, a Non-Governmantal Organization located in Imphal. She has also conducted several workshops at Imphal and at various other places in India.
Meitei Language Day, formally known as Manipuri Language Day, is an International Day observed annually on 20 August. It is a commemoration of the day on which Meitei language was included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India and made one of the languages with official status in India on 20 August 1992.

Mount Manipur, formerly known as Mount Harriet, is the third highest peak in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India. The mountain houses the Mount Manipur Memorial, which commemorates the Manipuri freedom fighters of the Anglo-Manipur War and the Mount Manipur National Park (Mount Harriet National Park), which is best known for its rich biodiversity in the archipelago. On 17th October 2021, Mount Harriet was officially renamed as Mount Manipur by the Union Government of India, as a tribute to the freedom fighters of Manipur. Meitei poetry day, formally termed as Manipuri poetry day, is an annual literary event organised to promote the poetries in Meitei language. It is organised in Manipur as well as in other Meitei speakers populated areas, aiming to popularise and expose Meitei literature to the world. The poetry day honours the contributions of the poets of Meitei literature as well as the diverse and distinctive uncommon literary traditions of the Meitei language.
