The 2009 World Games the eighth edition of the World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from 16 July 2009 to 26 July 2009. The games featured sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games.

Simon Shnapir American pair skater

Simon Shnapir is an American former competitive pair skater. With Marissa Castelli, he is the 2013 Four Continents bronze medalist, the 2009 World Junior bronze medalist, and a two-time U.S. national champion. The pair won a bronze medal in the team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics. After their split in May 2014, Shnapir teamed up with DeeDee Leng and competed in the 2014–15 season.

At the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung, three different roller sports disciplines were contested: artistic roller skating, inline speed skating and inline hockey. The speed events were held July 17–19 at Yangming Skating Rink. The artistic events took place July 21–22 and the inline hockey competition occurred July 23–26, both at the I-Shou University Gymnasium.

The Artistic Skating World Championships ('Worlds') is an annual artistic roller skating competition sanctioned by World Skate in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. First held in 1946, the event is regarded the most prestigious of the sport and a world title is considered to be the highest competitive achievement in artistic skating. Skaters compete in many different categories such as men's singles, ladies singles, pairs, and junior categories at the World Championships.

Matteo Guarise Italian figure skater

Matteo Guarise is an Italian pairs figure skater and roller skater. Guarise is the 2008 World champion in pairs roller skating with Sara Venerucci. With his figure skating partner Nicole Della Monica, he is a seven-time Italian national champion (2016–22). The pair have represented Italy at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.

Roller sport in India

Roller sport is popular as a recreational sport in India, specially roller skating for children, and it is gaining popularity as a competitive sport. There are clubs in cities and towns, and roller skating is taught in some schools of urban areas.

The World Roller Games are an international biennial multi-sport event, comprising all the world roller sport disciplines as regulated by the World Skate international federation. The games involve 11 World Championships in one multi-sport event.

Huang Yu-ting is a Taiwanese speed skater who has competed in inline speed skating, short track speed skating, and long track speed skating. She was the flagbearer for the 'Chinese Taipei' team at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games' opening ceremony.

World Skate Roller sports governing body

World Skate is the only Governing Body in the world for all sports performed on skating wheels. The organisation is the successor of the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) founded on the 21 of April 1924.

Anastasia Nosova Russian inline artistic roller skater (born 1998)

Anastasia Antonovna Nosova is a Russian inline artistic roller skater. She is two-times Russian national champion, three-times WIFSA World Open champion, two-times European champion, World champion 2016, vice-champion of World Roller Games 2017 in Junior Ladies Inline, vice-World champion 2018 in Senior Ladies Inline.

Dhanush Babu is an Indian speed skater. Most recently, Babu represented India in the 2019 World Roller Games held in Spain from 4 to 14 July 2019. He was the first Indian to secure an international roller skating medal for India in 2016 at the Asian Speed Skating Championship and to finish fifth in the 500+D event on the track in 2019.

The inline speed skating events at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung was played between 17 and 19 July. Sixty roller skaters, from 18 nations, participated in the tournament. The competition took place at Yangming Skating Rink.

The artistic roller skating events at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung was played between 21 and 22 July. 34 roller skaters, from 13 nations, participated in the tournament. The artistic roller skating competition took place at I-Shou University Gymnasium.
