Despite support from the party in government and part of the main opposition party, both amendments were rejected by voters.

He has been a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives since 2009, representing District 11, which includes the town of Dorado and parts of the towns of Vega Alta and Vega Baja. In the 2020 elections he was re-elected and chosen as speaker of the house in 2021.

He has been a member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives since 2001 representing District 39. Since 2013, he is serving as Speaker pro tempore of the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico.

In addition, there was also a non-binding status referendum to ask voters if Puerto Rico should become the 51st state of the Union.

Andrés Waldemar Volmar Méndez was a Puerto Rican politician and public servant for the New Progressive Party (PNP). He served as the Secretary of Sports and Recreation of Puerto Rico from 2017 to 2018, under Governor Ricardo Rosselló. Volmar ran for mayor of his hometown of Dorado, Puerto Rico on the 2020 Puerto Rican general election, but was defeated by the incumbent Carlos López Rivera. He is currently the host of La Bóveda de TeleOnce.
