Robin M. Gee is an American dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker. She serves on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a professor of dance in the UNCG College of Visual and Performing Arts and was the founding faculty advisor for Delta Chi Xi Honorary Dance Fraternity, Inc.

Biography

Gee earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in dance choreography and performance from Sarah Lawrence College. [1] She danced with New York-based companies Les Ballet Bagata and Maimouna Keita Dance Company. [2] Gee serves as the director of the Greensboro Film Festival. [3] She is also the artistic director of the African dance company Sugarfoote Productions, which she founded in 2006. [4] [5] [6] She was the artistic director and choreographer of Cinque Folkloric Dance Company in New York for fifteen years. [5]

Gee serves as an associate professor of dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, teaching African dance, Caribbean dance, and contemporary dance at the UNCG College of Visual and Performing Arts. [5] [6] [7] She was the founding faculty advisor for Delta Chi Xi.

In 2011 she performed Ramblin' Blues, a solo choreographed by Duane Cyrus and set to music of Aretha Franklin, at the North Carolina Dance Festival in Boone, Wilmington, and Greensboro. [8] In 2013 Gee spent six months in Burkina Faso, studying dance and music as a Fulbright Scholar. [6] In 2018 Gee directed the dance film Wanting. [9] In 2019 she was featured in the dance documentary Transmission. [10]

Gee is the recipient of the West African Research Association's Post Doctoral Fellowship in African Research and the Central Piedmont Regional Artists Hub Grant, which she was awarded in 2005 for her work on dance documentation in Guinea. She was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship from the American Association of University Women for her work on The Mande Legacy, a multimedia dance documentation. [8]

Dean's earliest works were marked by a minimalist approach and an affinity for spinning; her later work saw more use of traditional dance methods.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro University Libraries system has two branches on campus, both located in Greensboro, NC. These include the Walter Clinton Jackson Library and the Harold Schiffman Music Library. Affiliated campus libraries include the Teaching Resource Center and SELF Design Studio in the School of Education, the Interior Architecture Library in the Gatewood Studio Arts Building, and the Intercultural Resource Center located in the Elliot University Center. During the fall and spring semesters, Jackson Library provides a 24/5 study space for UNCG students, faculty and staff with UNCG ID from 12 am Monday – 7:00 am Friday. Michael A. Chrystelle Lee Trump Bond was an American dancer, choreographer, dance historian, and author. Bond was the founding chair of the dance department at Goucher College. She was the co-founder and director of Chorégraphie Antique, the dance history ensemble at Goucher. Bond was a dance critic for The Baltimore Sun.

Justin Tornow is an American dancer, choreographer, dance scholar, and dance teacher. She is the founder and artistic director of COMPANY, a co-founder and co-organizer of Durham Independent Dance Artists, former Board President of the North Carolina Dance Alliance, and producer of the PROMPTS art series in Durham, North Carolina. Tornow is trained in Cunningham technique and is a New York Public Library Research Fellow in Cunningham dance pedagogy. Gaspard Louis is a Haitian dancer, choreographer, and artistic director. A former dancer with Pilobolus, he is the founder and artistic director of the modern dance company Gaspard and Dancers. Louis is also on the faculty at North Carolina Central University and the American Dance Festival.

Gabri Christa is a Dutch performance artist, choreographer, professor, film-maker and writer. She is an associate professor of Professional Practice at Barnard College and also the Director for the Movement Lab there.
