Robin Schimminger (born September 17,1947) is an American politician from the state of New York. A Democrat,Schimminger represented District 140 in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 2020.
Schimminger was born in North Tonawanda,New York and resides in Kenmore,New York. [1] He is a graduate of Canisius College [2] and the New York University School of Law. [1]
First elected to the Assembly in 1976,Schimminger previously served as a member of the Erie County Legislature for two terms. [1] During his tenure in the Erie County Legislature,he chaired the Public Health Committee.
Schimminger was elected to the Assembly 22 times. As of 2019,Schimminger's district (Assembly District 140) included parts of North Buffalo,the Town of Tonawanda,the City of Tonawanda,and part of North Tonawanda. [1]
In 1985,after having served for four years as chairman of the Assembly Subcommittee on Small Business,he was named as chairman of the newly created Assembly Standing Committee on Small Business. He has also served on the Ways and Means,Codes and Health Committees.
Schimminger was a longtime chair of the Assembly Economic Development Committee, [3] [1] and was a frequent critic of the economic development policies of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. [1] [4]
Some signature pieces of legislation authored or sponsored by Schimminger include the Equal Access to Justice Act,Omnibus Procurement Act and the Linked Deposit Program.
A Democrat,Schimminger is known for working across party lines. [1] In 2019,the Buffalo News reported that "for about a quarter century,Schimminger ran with Conservative Party backing along a 'moderate Democrat' path. The last Western New York Democratic legislator to run on the Conservative line,he remains one of the few Assembly Democrats who opposes abortion and same-sex marriage". [5]
Schimminger announced on November 19,2019 that he would not seek re-election in 2020. At the time of his announcement,he was the dean of the Western New York delegation in the Assembly. [1]
The Conservative Party of New York State is an American political party founded in 1962 following conservative dissatisfaction with the Republican Party in New York. Running on the Conservative Party line,James L. Buckley won election to the U.S. Senate in 1970 and served for one term. Since 2010,the party has held "Row C" on New York ballots—the third-place ballot position,directly below the Democratic and Republican parties—because it received the third-highest number of votes of any political party in the 2010,2014,2018,and 2022 New York gubernatorial elections. The party is known for its strategy of attempting to influence the Republican Party in a more conservative direction.

Corwin was also the Republican Party nominee in the special election held on May 24,2011,to fill Western New York's 26th district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives previously held by Republican Chris Lee. The 2005 Buffalo Mayoral Election took place on November 8,2005. After incumbent Anthony M. Masiello,a Democrat,announced on April 29,2005,that he would not seek a fourth term as mayor,a field of several Democratic candidates emerged,from which New York State Senator Byron Brown emerged victorious in the primary election. In the general election,Brown went on to defeat Republican challenger Kevin Helfer,former member of the Buffalo Common Council for the University District,as well as two minor-party candidates. Buffalo's 2005 mayoral election is notable as the first in the city to be won by an African-American candidate.

Incumbent Republican Representative Chris Collins resigned from the House effective October 1,2019,following his guilty plea to federal insider trading charges. The election was originally scheduled for April 28,2020,but was postponed until June 23,2020,due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 Buffalo mayoral election was held on November 2,2021. Democratic Mayor Byron Brown won his fifth term in office as a write-in candidate. Brown's victory marked the first time since 1985 that Buffalo did not elect the Democratic nominee for mayor.
