Robyn Cara is a British actress. On television, she is known for her roles in the Apple TV+ series Trying (2020–2022), the Channel 4 comedy-drama Ackley Bridge (2021–2022), the Sky Max series The Rising (2022), and the Netflix series Bodkin (2024). Her films include Doctor Jekyll (2023).

Early life

Cara grew up in a small village. [1] She joined the National Youth Theatre and graduated from the Birmingham School of Acting [2] (now the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) in 2016. [3] [4]

Career

Upon graduating from drama school in 2016, Cara made her professional stage debut as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester. [2] This was followed by roles in The Importance of Being Earnest at the Theatr Clwyd, Anya Reiss's adaptation of Oliver Twist at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in London, [5] and The Be All & End All at York Theatre Royal. [6] Cara starred as Leonie in Ambreen Razia's BBC Three comedy pilot Hounslow Diaries in 2018 with Razia and Mandeep Dhillon. [7] [8] She made her feature film debut in the 2019 direct-to-video action film We Die Young as Rincon's (David Castañeda) sister Gabriela. [9]

In 2020, Cara landed her first major television roles when she began playing Jen in the Apple TV+ comedy Trying and also appeared in the BBC One miniseries Life as Kat. The following year, Cara joined the cast of the Channel 4 school comedy-drama Ackley Bridge for its fourth series as Kayla Afzal. [10] She would reprise her role as Kayla for its fifth and final series in 2022. She returned to the stage in Playfight at the Finborough Theatre. [11] Also in 2022, Cara starred as Katie Sands in the Sky Max supernatural series The Rising [12] and featured in the BBC Three horror series Red Rose as Alyssa Penrose, who dies in the first episode. [13] In 2023, Cara starred in the horror film Doctor Jekyll . [14]

Cara gained further prominence through her role as Emmy Sizergh in the 2024 Netflix series Bodkin . For her performance, Cara was nominated for a Gotham Television Award. She has an upcoming role in the USA Network series The Rainmaker, an adaptation of the John Grisham novel of the same title. [15]

Ackley Bridge is a British comedy-drama series set in a multicultural academy school of the same name. The series is set in the fictional town of Ackley, and filmed in Halifax, West Yorkshire and it began broadcasting on Channel 4 on 7 June 2017. In the fourth series, Ackley Bridge saw a major overhaul, including different time slots, a shortened runtime, several new characters to replace cast exits and moving the series onto streaming platform All 4.

The fourth series of the British television drama series Ackley Bridge began broadcasting on Channel 4 on 19 April 2021. The series follows the lives of the staff and pupils at the fictional multi-cultural academy school Ackley Bridge College, in the fictitious Yorkshire mill town of Ackley Bridge. When the commissioning of the series was announced, it was announced that Ackley Bridge would face an overhaul, including cast changes, a shortened runtime and a revised timeslot. The series consists of ten thirty-minute episodes, whereas episodes in the previous three series were double the duration. Unlike the first three series, the timeslot was moved to 6pm to appeal to a younger audience. Following the premiere of the first episode on 19 April, the series was made available to stream as a boxset on All 4.

Bodkin is a black comedy thriller television series, consisting of seven episodes, created by British writer Jez Scharf. It premiered on Netflix on 9 May 2024.
