Ron House is an American punk rock singer and songwriter from Columbus, Ohio. He was the frontman of the bands Great Plains and Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments. [1] [2] He is known for his high-pitched, nasal singing voice. [1] [3] [4]

Biography

Originally from Wooster, Ohio, House moved to Columbus to attend Ohio State University. [5] Early in his career, he was the frontman of Moses Carryout, Twisted Shouts, and Ron & the True Believers. His band Great Plains started in 1983 with the release of the EP Mark, Don & Mel. It went on to release albums on Homestead Records and Shadowline Records later in the decade. After Great Plains had broken up, House started Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, of which he served as the lead singer throughout the 1990s. [2] During this time, he also became part owner of the Columbus-based record store Used Kids, where he worked at the counter for twenty years. [6]

House's first solo studio album was Obsessed, which he released on his own label, Moses Carryout Records, in 2002. [2] It featured a more folk-centered sound than the punk music he had made with his previous bands. [7] He later started another band, the Counter Intuits, with Times New Viking's Jared Phillips. Their debut album, Sheets of Hits, was released in 2013 on House's own imprint, Pyramid Scheme. [8] It was followed by 2016's Monosyllabilly [9] and the 2018 single "Edge". [10]

Their music has typically been released through smaller independent labels. They are known for their association with Plan-It-X Records, as well as anti-capitalist themes.

Watershed is an American rock band based in Columbus, Ohio, consisting of Colin Gawel, Joe Oestreich, Rick Kinsinger, Herb Schupp (drums). Their songs have appeared in several television shows, including Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Laguna Beach, and The Dudesons. Several members of Watershed formed The Dead Schembechlers, a punk band based on the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry. Watershed has appeared on tour with several other bands, including the shock-rap group Insane Clown Posse. Watershed is managed by Thomas O'Keefe, a longtime fan of the band.

Fat Day was a Boston-based noisecore band. Formed in Cambridge, MA in 1992, they released a handful of LPs and several EPs on their own 100% Breakfast! label as well as many others.

The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Lizard McGee, bassist and vocalist Costa Hondroulis, and vocalist and keyboardist James McGee-Moore. Their most recent album Pause For The Jets was released in October 2016.

Saintseneca is an American folk rock band from Columbus, Ohio, that was formed in 2007 by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zac Little. The current band is made of Zac Little, Steve Ciolek, Jon Meador, Maryn Jones, and Matt O’Conke. They are known for their diverse range of instrumentation in both their recordings, as well as in their live performances. The band have released three EPs and four albums Last (2011),Dark Arc (2014),Such Things (2015), and Pillar of Na (2018). The band utilizes a wide range of acoustic instrumentation with more contemporary elements such as synthesizers and electric guitars.

OKra Records was a Columbus, Ohio-based independent record label established in the late 1980s. It was founded by Dan Dow, the former guitarist for the Gibson Bros. and the former owner of Used Kids Records, which he “co-founded” with Ron House in 1986. According to Cordelia's Dad drummer Peter Irvine, OKra was run almost entirely by Dow himself. The label stopped putting out records in 1993.

Jennifer Mae Leffel, better known as Jenny Mae (1968–2017), was an American indie rock singer-songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist. She was active first as a member of the band Vibralux, and later as a solo artist.
