The EP Roots was released by Orla Gartland on 11 November 2013. [1] All songs on the album were performed by Orla Gartland. Prior to the album release, the title track "Roots" and the song "Clueless" were released as music videos.
The Irish Independent interviewed Gartland upon the release and reported that she "...just released her debut EP Roots which climbed to the number one slot during the first week of release on iTunes." [2] UK based Fortitude Magazine wrote "Within its first day 'Roots' has already hit the No.1 spot in the UK and Ireland singer/songwriter charts and No.3 in Ireland's main chart." [3] On 24 November, the Irish Mirror featured Gartland in a full-page article and stated "last Tuesday on iTunes her debut EP, Roots, hit No1 in the main Irish albums chart, 15 in the main UK albums chart and No2 in the US singer/songwriter chart." [4]
The title track "Roots" was named Apple iTunes "Single of the Week" in the UK and Ireland in November of 2013. [5] [6]
Reviewers praised the quality of the composition of the songs on Roots, calling the lyrics "mature" and the music "surprisingly diverse for a four-track EP". [7] [8]
On 20 November 2013, Gartland was invited to interview and perform on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show broadcast nationally in Ireland on Today FM. [6]

Two tracks, "Roots" and "Clueless" were made into a sequence of partially animated music videos directed by Yousef Thami with animation by artist Prosper Unger-Hamilton. [9] [10] Tom Clarke filmed a studio session recording of "Roots" which was released as a music video on 13 October 2013 [11] and a studio session of "Human" which was released as a music video on 20 October 2013. [12] On 8 December 2013, Gartland released a lyric video of the track "Human".

Gartland toured in support of the album in February 2014, [3] visiting ten cities in Ireland and in the United Kingdom. [13]
The tour was managed by Matthew Montgomery-Taylor who was Gartland's "TM" for her three previous tours at the time.
Therapy? are a Northern Irish rock band from Larne, formed in 1989 by guitarist-vocalist Andy Cairns and drummer-vocalist Fyfe Ewing. Therapy? recorded their first demo with Cairns filling in on bass guitar. To complete the lineup, the band recruited Larne bassist Michael McKeegan. The band signed with major label A&M Records in 1992, for which they released four albums, most notably Troublegum in 1994 and Infernal Love in 1995. Ewing's departure in early 1996 preceded the arrivals of his replacement Graham Hopkins and Martin McCarrick on cello and guitar. Neil Cooper replaced Hopkins on drums in 2002. The band have remained a three-piece since the departure of McCarrick in 2004.

Black Stone Cherry is an American rock band, formed in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky. They were signed to Roadrunner Records until 2015; the band is now signed to Mascot Label Group. The band consists of Chris Robertson, Ben Wells, Steve Jewell and John Fred Young. Black Stone Cherry has released eight studio albums as well as two EPs and have charted seventeen singles on the US Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. Their latest album, Screamin' at the Sky, was released in 2023.
Diana Gordon, known professionally as Wynter Gordon, is an American singer and songwriter. She began her career writing music for other artists, later signing with Atlantic Records where she started to work on her own album. Matthew Sheridan Cardle is an English pop singer and actor. He was born in Southampton and grew up in Halstead, Essex. Cardle has been involved in music since his early teens and has been a member of two different bands; Darwyn and Seven Summers. Cardle rose to fame after winning the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010, and received a £1 million recording contract with Syco Music and later signed a deal with Columbia Records.
Rival Sons is a rock band formed in Long Beach, California, in 2009 and also affiliated with Nashville, Tennessee. The band consists of Jay Buchanan, Scott Holiday (guitar), Dave Beste and Michael Miley (drums). In their most recent tour they were joined by keyboard player Jesse Nason, and Todd Ögren accompanied them on previous tours. The Original Rudeboys (O.R.B.) are an acoustic pop/hip hop group from Dublin. Janet Maureen Aoife Devlin is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter who competed in the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011, where she finished in fifth place. Daughter is an English indie folk trio. Lauren Amber Aquilina is a Maltese-English singer and songwriter. Born in Bristol, she gained popularity by independently releasing a trilogy of EPs whilst studying at school. Her debut album Isn't It Strange? was released on 26 August 2016, after being signed with Island Records and Universal Music Group. Aquilina took a musical hiatus in October 2016, but resumed in August 2018.
