Ross Graham Bay OStJ QSM (born 1965) has been the 11th Bishop of Auckland in the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia since 17 April 2010. [1]
Bay was born in Auckland and educated in Papatoetoe, before studying theology at the Bible College of New Zealand and St John's College, Auckland. He was ordained in 1989 and began his ministry with curacies in Kohimarama and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland. Later he was priest assistant at St Matthew's, Auckland, and then vicar of Ellerslie. He became the vicar of St Mark's Remuera in 2001 and was appointed Archdeacon of Auckland in 2006.
Bay's last post before being ordained to the episcopate, at age 45, was as the 8th Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral from 2007 to 2010. [2] [3] While Dean of Holy Trinity, he officiated the funeral of Sir Edmund Hillary on 22 January 2008. [4]
Bay currently serves on the board of governors for private secondary schools King's College and Diocesan School for Girls which both have strong links to the Anglican church. [5] [6] Other governance roles include Chairman of the Diocesan Council, Chairman of Trustee of King's College, Trustee of the General Trust Board, General Church Trust Board, Auckland City Mission and president of the Selwyn Foundation. [7] Bay is a volunteer officer in the Auckland Operational Support Unit of Fire and Emergency New Zealand. [2] [7]
In 2020, Bay was appointed an Officer of the Order of St John. [8] In the 2022 Queen's Birthday and Platinum Jubilee Honours, he was awarded the Queen's Service Medal, for services to Fire and Emergency New Zealand and the community. [9]
Primate of New Zealand is a title held by a bishop who leads the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Since 2006, the Senior Bishop of each tikanga serves automatically as one of three co-equal Primates-and-Archbishops. Previously, one of these three would be Presiding Bishop and the other two Co-Presiding Bishops; and before that there was only one Primate.
The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, formerly the Church of the Province of New Zealand, is a province of the Anglican Communion serving New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands. In 1994, she became the first woman ordained bishop in the Anglican Church of Canada when she was made a suffragan bishop of the Diocese of Toronto. She then served as the Bishop of Edmonton from 1997 to 2007.
Sir David John Moxon is a New Zealand Anglican bishop. He was until June 2017, the Archbishop of Canterbury's Representative to the Holy See and Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome. He was previously the Bishop of Waikato in the Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki, the archbishop of the New Zealand dioceses and one of the three primates of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. In the 2014 New Year Honours, he was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the Anglican Church.
Alfred Walter Averill was the second Anglican Archbishop of New Zealand, from 1925 to 1940. He was also the fifth Anglican Bishop of Auckland whose episcopate spanned a 25-year period during the first half of the 20th century.
Wilfred John Simkin was the 6th Anglican Bishop of Auckland whose episcopate spanned a 20-year period during the middle of the 20th century. Born in Staffordshire he was educated at St. Oswald's School, and Lichfield Theological College before embarking on an ecclesiastical career with a curacy at Christ Church, Stafford. Emigrating to New Zealand in 1911 he was successively Vicar of Wairoa, Private Chaplain to the Bishop of Waiapu and Archdeacon of Hawkes Bay/Manukau before appointment to the See of Auckland in 1940. He was consecrated bishop on 11 June 1940. An enigmatic man, he worked tirelessly to complete the building of Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Eleanor Ruth Sanderson is an English Anglican bishop who has served as Bishop of Hull, a suffragan bishop in the Church of England Diocese of York, since 2022. She previously served as an assistant bishop in the Diocese of Wellington within the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. She became the first woman bishop in the Wellington diocese when she was consecrated on 2 June 2017. At the time, she was the fourth woman to be elevated to the position of bishop in the New Zealand Anglican church. Prior to becoming a bishop, she served as an Anglican priest for eleven years, also in the Wellington diocese.
