Ross Hammond (born August 10, 1977) is a Sacramento-based jazz guitarist, educator and concert promoter.
Hammond was born August 10, 1977, in Lexington, Kentucky. He moved to Sacramento when he was 10 years old. Hammond started playing guitar, a gift from his mother, two years later. He wanted to play drums, but his mother was in favor of the more portable guitar. Hammond played rock, funk, and soul music in high school. [1] [ full citation needed ] He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1995.
He attended California State University Sacramento, where he received a degree in communication in 1999. "I was taking lessons from a really good guitar teacher named Jim Beeler, and he introduced me to Kenny Burrell and Grant Green and Wes Montgomery and Mark Whitfield. It was a step further than what I was already doing." [1] [ full citation needed ] While studying at CSUS, Hammond started a band called Chile Palmer.
His recording career as a leader began in 2003 with the album Gauche, followed by Optimism (2004), Sometimes Nocturnal (2005), Ross Hammond's Teakayo Mission (2007), Duets (2008), and Effective Use of Space (2009).
In 2008, Hammond and Byron Blackburn co-founded the In the Flow Jazz and Improvisational Music Festival. The festival emphasizes free form jazz and takes place annually in Sacramento.
Hammond started the new decade with the solo guitar album Ambience, Antiquite and Other Love Songs (2010). In 2012, he formed the Ross Hammond Quartet with multi-instrumentalist Vinny Golia, drummer Alex Cline, and bassist Steuart Liebig. The quartet released Adored in 2012 and Cathedrals in 2013. [2] Both albums were recorded live in one day in a style reminiscent of classic jazz albums. [3] Cathedrals received a four-star review in Downbeat and was named one of the top jazz releases of 2013. [4] Jazz critic Ted Gioia named the album Upward (2016) by Hammond and Sameer Gupta thirty-fifth in his top 100 albums of the year. [5]
Hammond has been teaching out of his studio, Gold Lion Arts in Sacramento, CA since 2013. [6] In addition, he had an artist residency at Northern Arizona University in 2019, and spent a week doing individual lessons and small-group workshops, and also conducted a piece for the NAU large ensemble. He's taught music classes and workshops at Christian Brothers High School, River City High School, The Language Academy and William Land Elementary School in Sacramento. He's led improvisation and music career workshops at Sacramento City College and American River College.
Hammond started the Nebraska Mondays series at Luna’s Cafe in 2009, which continues to this day. [7] [8] From 2006 until 2012, he programmed the In The Flow Jazz Festival in Sacramento, CA. [9] [10]

Vinny Burns is an English hard rock guitarist and producer, best known for his work with the bands Dare, Ten and Bob Catley. He has also been a member of Asia, Ultravox, Hugo, FM, The Ladder, Phoenix Down, and on his own project with Sam Blue, Burns Blue. He is active as a producer and owns his one recording studio. The last album he produced was the debut album of the rock band The Beautiful Sleazy, "All Fired Up".
Alex Cline is an American jazz drummer.
Pat Wictor is an American blues and folk musician, guitarist, singer-songwriter, and recording artist. Known for his ethereal style, he was nominated for Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006 by the Folk Alliance, and has released a number of solo albums. In 2010 Wictor co-founded the folk trio Brother Sun, with singer-songwriters Joe Jencks and Greg Greenway, and the band has since released two full albums and toured extensively. Wictor also has an extensive discography as a sideman, playing instruments such as lap slide guitar and dobro. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.

Rich Rocks is the first extended play by American country music artist John Rich, one half of the duo Big & Rich. Rich co-wrote all of the songs on the EP with the exception of "Let Somebody Else Drive", which is a John Anderson cover. On four of the six tracks, Rich is introduced by a friend that is also in the music industry. Originally slated for a late 2010 release, it was pushed back to May 17, 2011, to coincide with the release of John Rich's other EP, For the Kids. Reprise Records released both Rich Rocks and For the Kids.

The Nikhil Korula Band is an American jam band based in California, known for blending genres as diverse as jazz, world music, and adult contemporary. Also called The NK Band, the original lineup has changed somewhat since the band was founded in 2002, and currently consists of Nikhil Korula, Ray Bergstrom, Matt Spencer, Adam Gust, Zane Musa, Marcus Milius, Chris Lovejoy, and Will Herrington. With a sound described by Relix Magazine as "part Dave Matthews guitar licks and sax solos alongside world-music beats," the band has performed at festivals such as Bonnaroo, the Playboy Jazz Festival, SXSW, and Summerfest. They have also headlined venues such as House of Blues and the Viper Room, as well as numerous college campuses, and have opened for Jason Mraz, John Mayer, The Roots, Erykah Badu, and Rusted Root, among others.
Motor Totemist Guild is an American rock band, formed in 1980 in Orange County, California by band leader James Grigsby. Described as an avant-prog, avant-rock and chamber rock band, Motor Totemist Guild was noted for its songs that worked into epic durations and rich instrumentation but also forayed into free improvisation, sound collage, and other avant-garde techniques.

Jeff Kaiser is an American trumpet player and composer who teaches music technology and music composition at the University of Central Missouri. As a trumpet player, he has performed and recorded with Vinny Golia's Large Ensemble, Eugene Chadbourne, The Motor Totemist Guild, and Guerino Mazzola, and played on the soundtrack for the HBO TV series Deadwood. As a composer and performer, Kaiser's recording on Nine Winds Records, Nothing is Not Breath, has been referred to on AllMusic as "one of the best presentations of Southern California improvising talent ever recorded, indicating his superior talents as a bandleader and conductor.” Performances of his experimental big band, The Jeff Kaiser Ockodektet, have been included among the top jazz concerts in San Diego.
