Ross S. Hodge (born July 15, 1980) [1] is an American college basketball coach, currently the head men's coach for the North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team. [2]
Hodge played two years of college basketball at Paris Junior College before transferring to Texas A&M–Commerce. [3]
Following graduation, Hodge became an assistant coach at his alma mater, where he stayed for two seasons before accepting the head coaching position at his other former school, Paris Junior College. While at Paris, he led the Dragons to an 83–17 overall record and two Texas Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season championships as well as an eighth-place finish in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2008. [4] [2] Following his stint at Paris, Hodge moved to Midland College where he had a 63–7 overall record, guiding the team to national runner up in the NJCAA tournament in 2011. [5]
In 2011, Hodge joined the staff at Southern Miss under Larry Eustachy for a single season. [6] He'd follow Eustachy to Colorado State where he stayed from 2012 to 2016 before joining Grant McCasland's staff at Arkansas State, and subsequently following McCasland to North Texas in 2017. [7] [8]
On April 2, 2023 he was promoted to be the next Head Coach at North Texas after McCasland accepted the head coaching position at Texas Tech. [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]

The North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represents the University of North Texas (UNT) in NCAA Division I college basketball, competing as a member of the American Athletic Conference.

The 2016–17 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mean Green, led by fifth-year head coach Tony Benford, played their home games at UNT Coliseum, nicknamed The Super Pit, in Denton, Texas, as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 8–22, 2–16 in C-USA play to finish in last place. They failed to qualify for the C-USA tournament.

Grant McCasland is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head men's basketball coach at Texas Tech University. McCasland previously coached at North Texas from 2017 to 2023, where he guided the Mean Green to two postseason tournament championships: the 2018 College Basketball Invitational and 2023 National Invitation Tournament. Prior to that, he had previously been an assistant at his alma mater Baylor and as head coach at Midwestern State, Midland College, and Arkansas State.
The 2017–18 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mean Green, led by first-year head coach Grant McCasland, played their home games at UNT Coliseum, nicknamed The Super Pit, in Denton, Texas, as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 20–18, 8–10 in C-USA play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They lost in the first round of the C-USA tournament to Louisiana Tech. They were invited to participate in the College Basketball Invitational where they defeated South Dakota, Mercer, and Jacksonville State to advance to the best-of-three finals series against San Francisco. After losing in game 1, they won games 2 and 3 to become CBI champions. They also had the biggest crowd since 2010 at 6,291.

Nelson D. Haggerty was an American basketball coach and college basketball player. He had been serving as an assistant coach for the North Texas Mean Green at the time of his death. He played for the Baylor Bears, staying four years; in 1994–95 he led the NCAA Division I in assists, averaging 10.1 per game. He is the all-time leader for career assists for Baylor with 699.
The 2019–20 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mean Green, led by third-year head coach Grant McCasland, played their home games at UNT Coliseum, nicknamed The Super Pit, in Denton, Texas, as members of Conference USA. They finished the season 20–12, 14–4 in C-USA play to finish as regular season C-USA champions. They were set to be the No. 1 seed in the C-USA tournament. However, the C-USA Tournament was canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020–21 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fifth-year head coach Grant McCasland, and played their home games at UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas as a member of the West division of Conference USA. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they finished the season 18–10, 9–5 to finish in third place in the division. They defeated Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Louisiana Tech, and Western Kentucky to win the C-USA tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 13 seed in the South region. There they upset No. 4-seeded Purdue in the first round for the school’s first ever NCAA tournament victory, before losing to No. 5-seeded Villanova in the second round.
The 2021–22 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fifth-year head coach Grant McCasland, and played their home games at UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas as a member of the West division of Conference USA. They finished the season 25-7, 16-2 in C-USA Play to finish as regular season champions. They defeated Rice in the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament before losing in the semifinals to Louisiana Tech. As a No. 1 seed who didn’t win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Texas State in the first round before losing in the second round to Virginia.

The 2022–23 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fifth-year head coach Grant McCasland, and played their home games at UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas as a member of Conference USA. They finished the season 31–7, going 16–4 in C-USA play to finish in second place. They defeated Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament before losing to UAB. They received an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament as a No. 2 seed. They defeated Alcorn State, Sam Houston, Oklahoma State, and Wisconsin to advance to the championship game. There they defeated C-USA foe UAB to win the NIT championship.
